Anasai Hall (ANNA-sigh)

Purpose / Function

Annasai Hall is the ceremonial seat of power for the Numab Tribes. Every Numab citizen adds their names to the hall in a coming of age ceremony. Each person inscribes their name on a leaf made of either glass, stone, wood, or some other durable natural material and add it to the garlands of leaves that hang from the ceiling and walls. Leaves can also be embedded into pillars or the floors. It is up to each person to find their place in the Numab tree of ancestors. Because this is one of the few permanent, written monuments of the Numab, it is a holy place.    When the governing council gathers for the annual meeting of the tribes, they conduct an opening and closing ceremony at the hall. This is to remind all participants that they are continuing the work of their ancestors and maintaining their traditions while also passing down these traditions and rites to the next generation. That everything the council of tribes does should be in service of the next generation, to ensure there is another generation to add their name.

Architecture

The building was carved into the cliff face of the mountains. The chambers are actually deep underground, but are lit naturally through a series of tunnels and mirrors. There are no doors. Entry ways between rooms are made of arches. The stone is smooth and expert craftsmanship. Acoustics were at the forefront of the design, so there are places within the hall where someone can stand and be heard throughout the room without much amplification. There are also alcoves designed to be quiet, secluded spaces.

Defenses

Because it is in the remote Gathering Place and deep in the rugged mountains of the Wastes, there is not much need for defenses. It is naturally protected from storms and other natural disasters. Armies have yet to make it all the way across the Wastes to this place, but if they did, they would have a hard time forcing their way in and the people within the city would have a ready supply of spring water to wait out the invaders. However, because it is a holy site, there are not many defenses within the hall to prevent violence except for social norms.

History

The hall was built at the end of the Numabian Conflict when the tribes created a unifying Peace Accords. Because the Numab were left for dead when Chog died, many were wiped out during the initial fall, and many more were lost during the aftermath. If another apocalypse or genocide were to occur, the Hall is a way for them to be remembered by whoever comes next.

Tourism

Anyone can go into the hall, though it is considered a holy place. Because it is so remote, few visitors outside of the Numab have visited. There have been a few merchants and adventurers who have made the trek, but beyond that it has mostly remained a place specifically for the Numab.
