The Modern Gods
The Pantheon
Head of the Modern Pantheon
Talos
God of StormsThe most worshipped god of the Modern Patheon, Talos is worshipped far and wide and is the dominant god of worship within Thunderia. Seen by the population as a god of their land, one who provides the rains that calm the seas of Oceanside, water the land in the Lowlands, and dampen down the dusts of Ironpeake. His storms are also rumored to sink the ships of those that oppose Thunderia.
Outsiders view Talos is that of a destructive god, with followers who are fanatical in their love of destruction. Priests of Talos are believed to be fond of extorting sailors and farmers, threatening that Talos will bring destructive storms upon them if they do not placate the angry god. Expressing these views in Thunderia is not recommended.
Sune
Goddess of Love and BeautyUnlike most of the gods, Sune’s past before ascending to godhood is known. Originally a member of a noble family, her human name was Lady Firehair. She is the deity of beauty, with governance also over love. Her dogma primarily concerns love based on outward beauty, often at the expense of any deeper connection. Taken by Talos as his GodBride, she enjoys the power and respect, yet is constantly paranoid that another goddess would seek her spot at Talos’ side.
The Domain of Enlightenment
Mystra
Goddess of MagicKnown as the Mother of Magic, the only known description of the mortal that became Mystra was of a "beautiful peasant girl" who was just beginning her studies of the magical arts. Her ascension to goddess was unforeseen by the other gods, her powers fleeting. At times she is powerful enough to take on Talos himself, at others she is so weak that her spirit drains from the land. Alzrius seeks to consume her powers and gain her place in the modern pantheon
The Minor Gods of the Domain of Enlightenment
Azuth
God of WizardsA lesser deity who concerns himself with the advancement and preservation of the magical arts. Worshiped by all manner of spellcasters (and wizards in particular), this crafty deity has worked his way into the mind of Princess Zara of the royal family – she has been know to hold worship in his name.
Deneir
God of Knowledge & Writing.Deity of art, cartography, glyphs, images, knowledge, literature and scholars. Each of Deneir's churches maintains a library of their own, always collecting literature and maps, but also keeping records of ancient languages and artistic renderings. These churches are full of scribes that transcribed books for the ever-growing collection. Also known to choose a person who truly followed his ideals — to invent, to create, to learn.
Laûra
Goddess of IllusionKnown as The Lady of Deception or The Lady of the Mists, she is the goddess of deception and illusions and patroness of illusionists and liars. Considered a minor member of the Pantheon, with just enough worshipers to avoid falling from power.
Domain of Time
Pelor
God of Life, Sun, Light and HealingAlso known as The Sun Father or the Shining One. God of the Sun, Light, Strength, and Healing. Worshiped by those who wish to heal and protect. He is also the keeper of time within Thunderia. Second only to Talos in strength of worship.
Minor Gods of the Domain of Time
Auril
Goddess of SeasonsClosely linked with Talos, much of Auril’s powers have been siphoned by Talos over the years, with Auril moving into a minor Goddess role. As this has happened, Winters have grown colder in Thunderia as Auril seeks to remind all that she is still a presence in the pantheon.
Selûne
Goddess of the MoonKnown as Our Lady of Silver and the Moonmaiden, she is the goddess of the moon, light, stars, navigation, navigators and wanderers. Twin sister and rival of Shar. She holds a deep hatred of Lycanthropy.
Domain of the Populace
Unlike the other domains, the Domain of the Populace is ruled by Chauntea and Sylvanus side by side as partners, rather than a traditional major/minor god arrangement.
Chauntea
Goddess of LifeAlso known as The Grain Goddess or the Great Mother, she is seen as being the embodiment of all things agrarian or agriculture. She is the goddess of agriculture, plants cultivated by humans, farmers, and gardeners. Worship is most common in the Lowlands, and in many places is linked to worship of her lover Sylvanus.
Sylvanus
God of Wild NatureThe Forest Father, is the god of wild nature. Silvanus was one of the oldest and most prominent deities in Thunderia, and the wilder counterpart to (and lover of) Chauntea. His worshipers protect places of nature from the encroachment of civilization with vigor and are implacable foes of industrious peoples. While he abhors the death of his creatures, he does not look down on those who hunt only to feed themselves. Those who hunt for sport, or to inflict pain however are likely to suffer his wrath.
The minor gods of the Domain of the Populace
Gond
God of CraftKnown as the Lord of all Smiths, Gond holds sway over the domains of craft and smithwork – worshipped by blacksmiths in particular across Thunderia. He believes actions count. Intentions are one thing, but it is the result that is most important. Talk is for others, while those who serve Gond do.
Tymora
Goddess of LuckMore commonly known as Lady Luck, she is the goddess of good fortune. She shines upon those who take risks and blesses those who dealt harshly with the followers of her sister Beshaba. Should someone flee from her sisters' mischievous followers or defile the dead, their fate will be decided with a roll of Tymora's dice.
Domain of the End
The Raven Queen
Goddess of DeathThe Neutral Goddess of Death, she oversees the passing of those who die to the ‘Otherworld’ – the good are given passage on her Raven Winged Pegasus, the evil are forged into feathers for its wings. Knows Cyric is a rival for her powers, but holds a much stronger support base.
Minor Gods of the Domain of the End
Beshaba
Goddess of MisfortuneLady Doom as she is also known, she is the deity of accidents, bad luck, misfortune, and random mischief. She is worshiped to keep her bad luck at bay. Her aim in life is to destroy her sister Tymora and take over the Domain of Luck for herself – twisting into the domain of Misfortune. She also delights in cursing others, often causing seafarers to lose their navigational instincts.
Cyric
God of LiesDeity of strife and lies with an immense following among those who benefit from deceit. He is petty and self-centered, and enjoys misleading individuals of all inclinations so that they performed acts that ruin their lives or so that they made fatal mistakes. Cyric is closely associated with the essence of murder, conflict, lies, and intrigue, and a constant rival of the Raven Queen as he wishes to subsume her powers under his own.
Shar
Goddess of Darkness and LiesThe Mistress of the Night and the goddess of darkness. Counterpart to her twin Selûne, she presides over caverns, darkness, dungeons, forgetfulness, loss, night and secrets. Among her array of twisted powers is the ability to see everything that lay or happened in the dark. She is also the Patron of the Underdark – however there is no known access to the Underdark within Thunderia.
Tuern
God of WarAlso known as the Lord of Battles. His dogma is primarily concerned with honorable battle, forbidding cowardice and encouraging the use of force of arms to settle disputes. Worshiped by the military, high ranking Royal Guards often obtain flaming swords in order to replicate his holy symbol. His longstanding rivalry with Gruumsh is known throughout his worshipers – Tuern’s worshipers view the Orc approach to battle as lacking all honor and reason, war and death for the sake of war and death.
Domain of Wild Creatures
The Domain of Wild Creatures, while still sitting beneath Talos in the Pantheon, sits separate to the other domains. The gods of Wild Creatures hate all of the other gods, and each other, refusing to work together. Both worshipers of Gruumsh and Maglubiyet believe their deaths transport them to a great battle between the two deities, where they can fight for eternity for their god.
Gruumsh
The God of War and OrcsEnvisioned with one eye by all who named him a god and a deity mainly worshipped by orcs and orogs. While part of the modern pantheon of gods, he stands alone from the remainder of the gods and still seeks to consolidate power and reform the land into a kingdom of Orcs. Has a long standing and sworn rivalry with Tuern – he views Tuern’s views on honorable battle as being in conflict with War’s ultimate goal of win at all costs. For Gruumsh; all is fair in war.
Maglubiyet
The God of GoblinsKnown as The Mighty One or The High Chieftain, he is the chief deity of goblins and hobgoblins. From his throne of flaming iron, Maglubiyet commands the souls of goblins, hobgoblins, and worgs to wage eternal war against the orcish petitioners of Gruumsh. The priests and shamans of Maglubiyet are his mouthpieces on the Material Plane. They fulfill his demands for blood sacrifices by dispatching victims with an axe. They believe that these sacrifices strengthened Maglubiyet
