Session 077: Frostmaiden Report

  The Ice Team found a hard blizzard, & were able to make their way to the Island of Solitude. The Dragons felt difficulty in turning into Dragons, they assumed this was due to their form settling.

Jekkar found himself suddenly on the coast with the Frost team, having taken a turn into a time effect allowing him to be in two places at once.

The party saw the Frostfell Temple, & Pyra noted that a lesser goddess, Auril was present. She was a cruel goddess of ice (Neutral evil).

They found some Ice Mephits on the first floor, Jörmungandr made his way up to the roof while everyone else made their way to the basement.

Jörmungandr found a Roc on the roof after making his way through what seemed to be a Frost Giant Throne room, Euadne cast a fireball at some Ice Mephits who were hanging around.
Down the stairs was an ice rink & Akuma an awakened Walrus.

They split up & took on the four Trials in four groups.

Jekkar took on the test of cruelty. He was asked to execute four nobles who betrayed the clan. One through food, another through theft, & another due to negligence/incompetence. Jekkar asked some questions & finally complied.
The test of endurance was a 12 hour march, 6 group survival checks, with Aetheria failing a couple of them.
The Test of Preservation had Hulgnir & his group protected a child from the monstrous Human who killed the village.
The Test of Isolation Euadne & group helped keep a village safe while the inhabitants went hunting.

They passed the tests & spoke to the Frostmaiden, Auril. She opened the way in the south, & the party entered into the Caves of Hunger. They found several undead creatures, & Aetheria felt something pulling her further down into the cave depths. Euadne sensed more magic present as she progressed.

Jekkar took out a Gnoll Vampire.

Notes

Caves of Hunger     Ceilings. Most cavern ceilings are 30 feet high and made of smooth ice. Tunnel ceilings range from 10 to 15 feet high unless otherwise noted. Darkness. All areas are cast in complete darkness unless otherwise noted.     Echoes. Sound travels quickly here. All Wisdom (Perception) checks to hear sounds in these caves have advantage. Ice Slides. As remorhazes burrow through ice, the heat radiating from their bodies smooths out the sides of the tunnels behind them to a glass-like finish. Many of these passages are severely sloped, creating ice slides. Descending an ice slide is easy; climbing one is another matter. A character needs crampons or other climbing gear to ascend one of these slippery passages.
