Feltoriad River

The Feltoriad River flows down from the Goldfall Mountains, and meanders its way south where it splits into a spider's web of of wetlands and mangroves before terminating into the Sea of Light. The origin of this river in the mountains has the rare trait of being a 'floating river;' some of the water is carried upward, and if not for the floating city of Sisinus, it would flow upward through the shared atmosphere with Celine and be deposited there. Long ago when the Mercane built their city, they used magic to divert the floating river into their canals and waterways.

Geography

The Feltoriad originates in the Goldfall Mountains, and supplies several mountainous lakes several miles down range from Sisinus; the Mercane have several small fishing fleets on these lakes, and police them against illegal fishing as well, much to the chagrin of other denizens of the mountains. It is not a particularly fast river in the mountains, as its floating aspect near it's origin seems to slow it down, but once it makes its way further down, the rapids can be treacherous for the inexperienced.    Once the river flows out of the mountains, it snakes down to the Sea of Light, and it some places, the river can be many miles across; there are several tributaries feeding into it along the way. The river is relatively light with sediment, so it is rarely murky, and the surface is typically rather clear, and navigation is easy. Several port cities have sprung up downriver to take advantage of the plentiful business they receive from Sisinus.   The mouth of the Feltor ends at the Sea of Light, where is breaks into a spider's web of mangroves and the Hag's Swamp.

Localized Phenomena

The origin of the Feltoriad is a floating river, a rare phenomenon that is not entirely understood; some of the water from the river flows upward, and in most cases in other parts of Thyr, this water coalesces into an orb of floating water, called sky lakes. However, the Feltoriad didn't do this due to the proximity of Thyr's moon, Celine; instead it formed a river that flowed from Thyr onto Celine, terminating into Calderous Lake. Because of the interference of the Mercane, this river no longer flows to Celine, and Calderous Lake has nearly dried up, something for which the natives of Celine hold the Mercane responsible; the Mercane deny this, of course, and continue to do business as usual, but the natives still harass their cargo shipments and attempt to sabotage the Halls of Commerce on occasion.

Fauna & Flora

The Goliaths living in the mountains, while nomadic, tend to follow the river as they move throughout the mountain range, as the salmon they pull from the waters are quite large, reaching in excess of 200 pounds in some cases. The Mercane continuously attempt to police what they call 'illegal fishing,' however the goliath tribes ignore them at best, and outright kill their tax collectors at worst.   There are many fey living along the river, luring unsuspecting mortals into their watery dens, either as a snack or for a prank.    Yrins kobolds have many warrens along the river, especially in the Hag's Swamp.   The plant life is mostly grasslands and prairie, with the occasional forest.

Natural Resources

Fish, drinking water, and irrigation, as well as some minerals carried down from the mountains.

Sounds to me like the Mercane need a bit of a beating... Stupid jerks for killing the moon-lake.

As soon as I figure out the Celine natives, that will be part of their culture, sticking to the Mercane. Thanks for commenting!

That floating Calderous Lake sounds like an amazing thing to see. I agree with Michael shame on the Mercane for removing it.
