Courser

Back in the early times of the Kingdom of Canterbury, the treatments for brokenness were on their infancy, with all clicks from the lowest stock to Queen Laura herself having to deal with their injuries with crude methods, many times resorting to the use of modelling clay embedding as a means to keep a person's pieces together, or to attach crude prosthetics.   It was in this context that a stock man with destroyed legs was subject to a revolutionary treatment: while no spare legs were available to replace it, the Kingdom found a fatally headless horse with an intact body and through cunning and resourcefulness managed to marry both halves into a single individual, a centaur man they named Courser.

Life

Courser was given the Breath-of-Life once the union was completed, birthing a functional, resilient abomination.
He was welcomed among the Canterburians and immediately became a capable worker and fighter, seen often aiding in the charges against geyser snakes alongside Sebastián.
He quickly became respected among his peers, but even back then people pitied his terrible condition.

A Lifetime of Adjustments

When Courser was first created, the lower half of his human belly was unsavouringly hollow and left the workings of his fusion free to see.
Modelling clay prosthetics were fitted in the area for aesthetic improvement, hiding his paper-ball-and-wire guts from the public. He needed several of these interventions to mask the marks of the fusion, and many other times to fix, improve or adjust the wires.

Public Reception

The case of Courser was the most extreme case of treatment for brokenness ever seen in Tierras Mágicas.
He was widely considered to be an abomination by the public, though the beliefs about his condition thankfully didn't negatively impact his standing in society.

Chimaeras

"There are some rare occasions where the dead are used to make the alive."
Courser was the first recorded case in the World of Plaza of a phenomenon known as chimaerism, or the creation of a new individual using the parts of other ones.
While chimaeras always stayed a controversial topic among the past and present societies originated in Tierras Mágicas, customization and the use of "spare parts " got popularized in the Space Era by The Lions of Vintiver: What started with Courser as a way to salvage a dead toy to bring new health to another will now go as far as to create new toys with very specific characteristics planned beforehand, purposefully sourcing their parts in more ethically dubious ways.

Reading 'destroyed for parts' as his cause of death is so dark, considering what he went through in life. I'm glad he was accepted mostly in society though.
