Marcl Owlwood

Marcl was found at a very young age on the steps of a Monk’s home. He was left with only a scrap of parchment bearing his name “Marcl Owlwood”. The monk named Yu Feng, a tabaxi, took one look at him, and saw potential. Feng took him in and raised him as his own. Marcl grew up learning the teachings and ways of Klothys, the goddess of secrets and destiny. Once he reached the age of 5, Feng gave him a choice. Feng was to return to his monastery that he leads, leaving for a spiritual mission that had now finished, and offered to take Marcl with him and learn the ways of the four elements, or he could find a new home for Marcl. Marcl had grown quite attached to Feng and wanted to stay with him. Together they traveled from the north of Heung and towards the East, where the temple of Elements stood. There Marcl began his training. Before being able to start learning the elements, he had to learn basic combat first. By age 8, Marcl had become an exceptional fighter and was ready to learn the elements: fire, water, earth, and air. Marcl was given a choice on which to learn first, knowing each element will take time to learn and master. Marcl wanted to become strong as soon as possible to protect his master and all the friends he’s made in the temple, and thus had picked fire for his first element. Marcl tried for a long time, but he was struggling. Enhancing his ki to create flames was much more difficult for him than using it for hand to hand combat, it required much more will and concentration. Whereas most students could move onto their next element within a year, it took Marcl 2 years to get the hang of fire. At age 10, Marcl was ready to move onto the next element. He would choose the next morning, but that choice never came. In the middle of the night, Marcl heard a voice, “Feng cannot avoid his destiny”’. Marcl jumped out of bed and ran to his master’s room. Right as he entered, he watched as Master Feng had two swords thrust through him. Feng looked at Marcl and with his last breath “It is not your time yet” and used wind to close the doors. Before they closed, Marcl saw the faces of Master Feng’s murderers. A tall female elf with long black hair and a scar across her left cheek, a dwarf with a short, curly red beard, and a human with dark skin and glowing gold eyes. Marcl then ran, alerting all the monks he could find along the way, the bells tolled signaling intruders. It wasn’t long before the temple was in flames. Marcl did his best to protect others and try to control the flames, fighting away intruders as they came, but as much as he tried, he continuously failed to keep people safe. An older monk who helped teach him grabbed him from a hiding spot and told him to run. A voice ran through Marcl’s head again, the one from his dream, “Your time will come, but for now you must run”, so he ran. He ran deep into the woods and deserts of Heung watching from afar as his temple burned to the ground. From then on, Marcl wandered the wilderness. Training himself to strengthen his use of fire and surviving alone. Every once in a while he would pass through a town and hear bits and pieces of what was left of his temple. Nothing. The temple was completely burned and everyone was found dead. A parchment with all members of the temple was even found and confirmed that all bodies were accounted for, except for one. Most seem to believe that last body was burned to nothing but ash, but Marcl knew and he was sure that the murderers knew too. For seven years Marcl wandered around Tio Luma, helping those who need it, but generally keeping to himself.
