Don't pick up cursed weapons

General Summary

Just as a reminder, we've only got two months to get to the Thane Moot. The tricky part of going there, everyone is open to challenge, and their hierarchy is very strong. There are a few people immune from the traditional hierarchy: skalds, priests, blacksmiths, and shipwrights. Basically, the people who help keep society functioning.   About 4 days out from Hozenstadt a large sea monster swam with six limbs swam by under our boat.   Just as we recovered from that shock we realized the winds were against us and through the deep fog we could hear a piercing whistle.   "It's the Whistling Isle," the sea folk muttered amongst themselves, "It's an ill-omened place."   We sailed on and sighted land after a day of sailing, took our dinghy in to the island that had a small town surrounded by an amazingly tall stone wall. We came in to the bar in the middle of a wake.   We offered to buy some drinks, and I danced with the men there as the skald sang to honor their fallen friend. We spent the night talking with the locals, they told us all about how the walls were so large to keep out the nasty creatures found inland. They told us how they knew to come in from the day of fishing by the sound of the whistle, as the whistling changes with the tide.

Into the unknown

Something seems off in this town, so we decide to head out and see just what we can find. The jungle isn't quite what we expected, it seems more green and lush for how far North we are. The animals are bigger than expected. Halfway through the day we fight off flying lizards.   We climbed towards the center of the island, and we noticed the wind sounded different by the gorge. I hiked in and climbed up to the three caves we saw above.   "Look," I said, "There are symbols above this cave." The first sign looked like crossed bones, and then two circles touching each other, next a lizard creature, and finally a person bowing.   "Perhaps, this is a temple to some sort of power?" Marcus asked.   "I don't know," I answered stepping into the cave.   The darkness was absolute, "Flame on," I said. Nothing happened. "Cap can you summon light?"   "Light," he said touching his shield, but no answering glow came.   "I have an idea," I concentrated on how my eyes felt when I shape-shifted into a cat, and I could see the dim outlines of the cavern. "There's a tunnel over here," I walked over and we slid down.   "Ahhhh food comes to me," a slithering voice hissed from the darkness.   "Not food, friends," I responded.   "How can we be friends if we haven't met?"   "Let me tell you about ourselves," and I recounted our story of all we had done, "Who are you?"   "Sudden Death from Below," the creature hissed.   "As new friends, let us share a drink," I said and pulled the cask of rum from my bag. I poured a drink for each of us, and then passed some of the barrel over to the large snake.   "As new friends, you can help me with something," she said as she drank, "My progeny are under sway of a new creature. It calls to them and forces them to go forth and do its bidding. Someone stole something that controls them. Bring it back to me."   "We will," I answered.   "I will hold you to it," the voice answered withdrawing.   "Addie," Cap called, "Come see this."   "It's a skeleton," Marcus said, "There's a suit of armor, and someone pulled something out of his hand recently."   "What's this," Cap said, he picked up a sword and pulled it from the sheath. A symbol of the Dark One glistened on the sword.   "Cap," I said nervously, "I need you to put that sword down."   "Why?" Cap asked. "It's a nice sword."   "Cap, see if you can hold that sword and your shield?"   "That's silly Addie, of course I can, look I'm holding my shield right here." He gestured and realized he had put his shield down. He picked it up, but then put it down to admire the glow of the sword.   "Cap, you put it down again."   "That's ridiculous," He looked down and his shield was shoved to the side.   "Cap, if you don't put that sword down, I'm going to break it."   "Addie, don't be ridiculous. Why would you break this nice sword?" I pulled out the Unmade Blade and swung on his sword. Cap blocked the blow, and the sword shook in his hands. He disengaged, and swung at me, I heard a note and dodged the blow, dancing to the side as I swung on the sword again. I twisted and brought my blade down, and the sword shattered.   Cap staggered back and a dark energy hovered in the room before draining into the ground.
