It's scary to go into a giant death trap

General Summary

That night after the excitement of the elemental, we take turns with watches, because let’s face it something is always trying to kill us. Surprise, surprise something did try to get at us, but it didn’t attack us. Instead, it tried to steal a few coins. I opened up my new coin bag and all of the missing coins were there. Thankfully Lili knows a little bit about magic and was able to figure out the pouch gathers up rare coins until it has exactly 100 coins. So, we need to make sure it always has 100 coins so I don’t accidentally steal from somebody important.   A full day later we set off back to town because you know it’s important to spend an entire day discussing how you will deal with all of the crazy magic armor suits. We eventually hide most of them back up in the cliff, but Cap’n insists on bringing back a suit of armor.

IT NEVER RAINS BUT IT POURS

Of course, heading back to town we were beset by people with red eyes. One stole stuff from Cap’n, Lili set off to deal with another one. I don’t know what happened but she reappeared with a lock of gray hair and the guy was gone. It was cool to see her flying off using the new weather staff.   With one person remaining I cast hold person on the last guy (who was the blacksmith’s apprentice), and we were able to question him, but all we got out of him was, “Must get the artifacts back. You condemn us to hell.”   Was he talking about the armor or the cool toys? I’m rather curious.   Milli heals Henry, the blacksmith’s apprentice, and he comes to without the red eyes. He looks around in confusion and when asked what’s up says, “Voice said my great great great great gran…. there was pain… made an oath to fulfill, looking for something, not at peace,” and with that he fell back to sleep. We tracked down a few elders and discovered an oath was made to deliver something and they didn’t and the people are trapped between worlds because of the broken oath. “Who’s trapped between?” I asked. “The others, no our kin went on,” Memphit answered. “When our kin first came here they were trapped behind lines, and they found a place to hide. They were maybe fighting Urakai, and they made a deal.” “Who with?” “I don’t know,” she said looking down at her hands, “Maybe the people at Whistler Mountain.”

THE GREAT HIKE TO WHISTLER MOUNTAIN

As we talked it over, we remembered the group who came through here a few weeks ago that set off to Whistler Mountain, maybe there was something they found. So we set off on a fun hike to find the last group of adventurers. A couple of hours into our hike we run into a wagon loaded with armor and a jumble of rocks and a man desperately trying to get the wagon to go faster. “Greetings traveler, where are you traveling from?” asked Cap’n. “My party went to the creepy mountain. I got held up and arrived only to find the remains of their base camp, and an opening in the mountain where they’d dug through.” “Why were you exploring it?” “Oh we were hired by,” and he rattled off a very long name with a lot of Ibns. We all exchanged uneasy glances as we recognized the name and the description of the man. “He wanted us to look into some legend and find out if there was anything behind it.”

BASE CAMP, ONLY NOT OURS

Their base camp looks familiar, like how we would set up a camp if we were getting ready for the night. We hike the short walk to the mountain and see a small hole in the side that drops down.   We drop in and see this hallway with long shallow steps going down. As we go down, I notice the whistling that’s been present for the last little bit. Cap’n drops the armor down into the hole with us but leaves it at the entrance. After all, it’s a little challenging to carry for any length of time.   Cap’n glanced up after putting down the armor and said, “Watch out, that stone there is going to fall on us if we’re not careful.” We all nod in response, and Milli takes point. “Guys, there’s a creature up in the corner over there,” Milli says and starts walking towards it holding her hand out, “Hey little fellow, how you doing?” And that was when the creature tried to eat her. “Never stick your hand out,” I muttered, “Something always tries to eat you.” It was a quick and short fight, but when the creature is down, we notice a foul stench coming from it.   Having dealt with the creature, we relaxed and started walking forward through the chamber, and that is when the jackal statue’s eyes turned red, and the stone thumped down behind us. All of the whistling sounds went away. “Look up above!” Cap’n shouted. We glance up and see glowing runes around the walls by the ceiling. “Those are sea folk runes, some kind of curse, I think it translates as evil magic spell.” “I think we figured that out,” I yell over my shoulder as I walk towards the altar. “He guys, this altar looks like it’s been disturbed recently. Most of it is covered in dust, but there’s parts where the dust is gone.   I glance over at the walls and see an elaborate mural featuring the jackal god Amu-ackma bowing to a human king. Of course, as I’m examining the back wall, that’s when the evil zephyr attacked us.
