The King is in denial
General Summary
After our epic fight, we catch our breath for a few minutes and I fly up to the next area above us. There are two large platforms joined by a smaller platform in the middle with a large bowl sitting between them. I landed carefully on the left platform and walk over to look at the bowl. I notice the sky reflected in the bowl, and I look through it and suddenly I’m no longer in the same room, but I’m flying down a spiral staircase. As I look up I can see myself from the other side.
“What are you doing here?” a voice from further down the stairs asks. “This is the king’s private chambers. Come with me.” I float down the stairs and into a throne room. There is a figure of a young boy, maybe 12 years old, laying on a bier, and an older man is sitting next to him. I studied him for a moment before I realized he looks like an older version of the king we saw in the mural.
“What are you doing here dressed like that?”
“I apologize for coming uninvited, but we encountered many travails trying to reach you, and your daughter tried to keep us from you, your majesty,” I answered after a bit of hesitation.
“What? My daughter is a child, why she’s only eight! My son and heir lays here sick,” he gestured to the sleeping prince who moaned in his feverish sleep. “To jail with you!”
And just like in a dream, I was in jail, but thankfully the door was not locked, so I left the dungeon and followed the sound of a dog barking. I turned the corner and found a large wolfound chained to a guard.
“He’s been like that since the prince fell ill,” the guard said scratching the dog’s head.
“Poor dog,” I said as I passed the guard, “I need to talk to the king.” I charged into the throne room and said, “Your majesty, you need to act. Your kingdom is in ruins. Your people are changed.”
“What foolishness are you talking about?” he roared. “The Corromani would never fall. We just beat the changed.”
I blinked as I realized he didn’t know how much time had passed. “That was thousands of years ago. Your city is in ruins, and the world has forgotten you.”
“Young child,” I did a double-take. I’m not exactly young, “You obviously are overly tired and need to rest.” And then I was in a bedroom and sleeping.
This was rather like a fever dream.
I woke up to a child’s suit of armor knocking on my door. I followed the armor back up to the throne room, and the king’s face scrunched up in anger. “What are you doing here with that thing? Can’t you see how much that upsets my son?”
I looked around and saw the armor trying to get to the prince, and pushed courtiers out of the way, “I’m sorry king, but this might heal your son.” I herded the armor up to the sick prince and the armor touched him and collapsed crying, or as much as a suit of armor can cry.
“Get out!” the king screamed in anger and I herded the armor out of the room with me. Running up the stairs, shuffling the armor up the stairs and back through the pool of water.
My spirit tries to get back into my body, but something feels wrong. I then convince Papa Legba to let the prince’s spirit room in with him until we can get his body back.
Because of course his body is missing again.
THIS ALL HAPPENED WHILE I WAS VISITING THE CRAZY KING
Lili flew up to the second layer of the platform with a platform. She tied it up and Milli climbed up. When she got up, she splashed some of the water on me (I was still on fire at this point) which hurt me. Cap climbed up afterward and tried slapping me with mage hand, but it just burned him. Milli tried jumping across and tackling me, but nothing changed my strange lack of awareness of their activities. Cap then tried shaping water to get me to stop staring unaware but wasn’t able to. Lili tried throwing a pebble into the water, and it dissolved. Milli tried putting her finger into the “water,” and the very tip of it dissolved and she pulled it out. Finally, Lili dispelled magic in the area around the bowl including me, and my body stopped breathing! Cap was able to get me alive again using a rather expensive spell involving diamond dust. My spirit returned to my body a few minutes later, and that was a rather interesting bit of time.IT’S TIME TO SEARCH FOR WOLFIE AGAIN
While we’ve been busy playing around with various different nasty creatures Wolfie has run off again. Thankfully Milli was able to follow his tracks and we headed off to the complete other side of the island to Villa Memoria. The whole time we’re traveling, I have the feeling something is following us, and we occasionally run into some fun little creatures courtesy of the crazy Princess and her beholder minion. I’m just going to assume the beholder is her fault. It appears the Villa Memoria is a graveyard. There are about 20 tombstones there and seems to be in a perpetual state of storm. As we walk through there are occasional bits of lightning and fire elementals appearing. After several rather eventful moments, we make our way across the graveyard, but as soon as we step into the mausoleum we go blind. We all backed out of there, and Lili talked Cap through the maze of the mausoleum, but he’s not able to get the key to open the door, so she guides me through it, and between the two of us we are able to grab the key and unlock the door. At which point the lightning inside stops and I am able to see again. Inside the locked room is a sarcophagus with King Algara written on it. On the far wall is an armor stand holding blue scale armor, a shield, belt, and hauberk. The rear wall is covered by a fresco, the king sits on a craggy shore and is reaching out to the storm-wrapped lady as she reaches down. She rather reminds me of Aeiea. “You know,” Lili says as she looks up at the sky. “I think if I tried, I could use my staff to recover the powers bestowed to the king’s children.” “We should bring this armor with us,” Cap said. “I think this belt could be useful to me, and Milli could certainly make use of this sword.”HOUSEKEEPING AT THE END OF IT ALL
