The Man of the Mines
The Creator sang the world into existence. As He sang the Powers emerged and added their voice to His song.
The Man of the Mines crawled from the depths of the mountains and added his voice to the Great Symphony being created. As his deep bass voice rumbled through the mountains he saw Man and knew Man was good, but not quite right to work in the deeps of his mountains.
Se he sang, and as he sang some men came and listened to his voice. His voice called and caught them from where they were.
As they listened to the Man of the Mines song they changed. They grew shorter and stockier. Some stepped to the side and their bodies broadened and became stronger. The men's voices grew gruff and deep. The women's voices were gruff, but lighter and more delicate. Thus were born the dwarves. They began to dig and pull forth great treasure from the deeps of the earth. From those treasures they built relics of song and stone.
The Man of the Mines continued singing and the people left behind grew shorter still and more delicate. As he sang their hair changed color to reflect the many colors of the gems they worked with. Their fingers grew more nimble and their voices more chipper and delicate. Thus was born the gnomes. They took the metals and gems the dwarves had pulled forth from the mountains and turned them into feats of engineering great to behold.
Slowly the Man of the Mines song came to an end, and he said, "My children, you will find many great treasures Underland. As you dig look to the mines and see my joy in you. Take what you find and make your own treasures to share with me and the Creator."
So the dwarves and gnomes dug into the ground. Soon the mountains were riddled with the mines of the dwarves and the gnomes and they rang with their voices as they sang through their work.
