We might survive the giant death trap

General Summary

So far we have survived fire and air, but how will we do against water and earth? That’s our theory for the last two rooms.   Might as well check out the next one, I shape-shift into a polar bear, because they can hold their breath for a long time, and can survive in the cold well. Within a few feet and turns, I discover this is a giant underwater maze, and there’s a water elemental in there somewhere. So, off to try the earth hallway again.   EARTH HALLWAY   Before we head down, Cap’n released one of the healing mist jars, and we all feel much better after all the fire damage we took. We walk for 15 minutes in that slightly smaller maze before we see a different hall. I step into the room of columns only a few steps and walls drop surrounding me and sand pours in. And of course, the doors of the room close keeping everyone else out. I try shouting the big phrase, but nothing happens. I try cutting the mesh wall, but can’t, and then a sand creature attacks me. I get rid of it, and shift into a gopher and dig my way out. Lili knocks all of the sand back with her super awesome weather stick. It’s super awesome right now because I like what it’s doing. Then she blasts all of the sand around using the staff. Apparently, that angers the sand elemental, and it attacks Lili. I finally dig my way out of the mesh cage and try to bite the sand elemental. All that got me was a mouth full of sand. Not so helpful. Instead, I focus on triggering as many of the sand traps as I can. Devan finds a false panel and disarms the trap in this room. After all, that’s happened Milli and Devan both use their clay jars to heal us up more.   We go into the next room and discover three sarcophagi in the middle of the room covered in gold leaf with a statue of a woman with her arms folded. In each of the alcoves are statues of women in priestly garb.   “This room feels strange, “Lili says as she walks in and knocks on a sarcophagus. Immediately a ghost floats up out of the sarcophagus. “Menet-Ka is life, Menet-Ka is death,” Lili gasps in shock. Apparently, the scary ghost lady didn’t like that phrase because she attacks her. We start pushing lids off of sarcophagi and I flame-ball a body, Lili lightnings another. After the bodies are consumed we put the lids back on the sarcophagi to smother the fires, no use letting them waste our precious air. Once the fires are out we open the sarcophagi again and find: • ornate black pearl (1500 gold value) and gold tiara (1 time a day +5 to hit scorching ray, Lili got it) • cloak (+1 protection, +1 AC, +1 saving throws) and the other half of the tablet (total tablet is 1 pound of gold worth about 1000 gold) • ornate iridiscent pearl and kopesh (+1 scimitar) Lili grabs the tablet half and notices a constellation pattern on it. After a second I realize it’s the route I was trying to swim.

THE WATER “HALLWAY”

Devan and I glance over at the others and notice they are acting very silly. Lili is wearing a tiara, and Cap’n is laughing his head off. Devan and I start stuffing things in bags and tieing things up to ropes. We shake them and explain we have to swim across to the other side. As we swim across we all struggle to swim. Lili and Milli swallow water and go unconscious. I go unconscious as I struggle to pull them through. Thankfully Devan and the Cap’n are able to pull all of us through, along with our very water-logged stuff.   We emerge onto a small island with a sarcophagus in the middle of it. A ghost rises up from the sarcophagus and asks, “Is it too soon? Why did you disturb me from my rest?” Lili and Devan say the chant, and Lili hands him the tablet.   And an arch appears on the other end of the island. It’s made of the same green metal we’ve been seeing and looks like vines. We have no clue where this is going, but we’re running out of air soon, so we walk on through. Devan walks through the arch and nothing happens. Cap’n sits down and drinks some of the water we just swam through, and he feels 10 years younger. Lili drinks it and her streak of gray hair disappears. We all hurry over and drink some water. Devan loses 30 pounds. This is some awesome miracle water, and I fill my water skin with it. Milli walks over to the arch with her magical Andromani bracers on and a gateway opens to a field with mushrooms. We’re running out of air in here, so might as well give this a try. I quickly shape-shift into an otter and grab the dropped rope, and we go through the portal.   We step through looking around and see an open glade in the midst of a deep old wood. As I turn around I notice we are in the middle of two circles of mushrooms. “We are in so much trouble,” I say under my breath. That is when the knight on a roan horse with crimson armor rides up and bows to Milli, “Greetings Emissary, do you come in peace?” Milli looks around for a moment and then says, “Yes, yes we come in peace.” “Well then come, and you may come as a guest to my Lady the Witch in the Forest.” Which means we are now bound by guest rites to Baby Yaga. How exciting.
