The Three/The Hecateae
Gods of Fate
The three are a group of sisters, represented generally by the maiden, the mother, and the crone. The maiden is said to stand over the moment of every mortals birth, holding forth the cloth for which the strand of the fate of that mortal will be spun, though by some considered the least powerful of the three, should she shirk her duties a mortal can be unbound by fate, and thus destiny. The mother is responsible for gathering the cloth together and spinning the fate of a mortal together, gathering forth the many strands and paths a mortal may take before spinning it into their strand. The crone is there at the moment of a mortal’s death and is responsible for cutting their strand, severing their fate. The crone is the reason some resurrection magic has longer time limits than others, as she is responsible for finding and repairing the cut strands should the soul be brought back to the land of the living. Should a soul be brought back without her managing this, then they would be unbound by fate.
