Yunei Riverlands (YU-NAy)
Influenced by the Kenpei Archipeligo to the west culturally, though far more diverse in species, the Yunei Riverlands are a low flat kingdom made up of villages connected by extensive waterways. Though heavily impacted by swampland that makes farming difficult for the majority of the kingdom's, the use of waterways over roads has led this kingdom to be a go-to for neighbors wishing their goods to reach the sea swiftly. While roads do snake through the landscape, bridges are a rarity and water crossings are necessary in many places, it is a good idea to trade a cart for a river ship when entering these lands, or else double or triple your travel time.
Fauna & Flora
Mirevine
The Mirevine is a unique plant species found in the swamplands of the Yunei Riverlands. It thrives in the damp and nutrient-rich soil, often growing in clusters near the water's edge. The Mirevine has long, slender stems that rise up from the murky waters, reaching heights of up to six feet.
The most striking feature of the Mirevine is its vibrant blue bioluminescent flowers. These delicate blossoms emit a soft, ethereal glow during the nighttime, creating a mesmerizing sight across the swamps. The light attracts nocturnal insects, which become crucial pollinators for the plant.
The Mirevine's roots extend deep into the muddy substrate, allowing it to absorb nutrients and moisture efficiently. It has adapted to the swampy conditions by developing a specialized root system that filters out toxins and extracts essential minerals from the surrounding environment.
Aquastrider
The Aquastrider is a fascinating aquatic creature inhabiting the waterways of the Yunei Riverlands. It is a slender, amphibious animal that moves with grace and agility both in water and on land. Its body measures about two feet in length, with a streamlined shape and webbed appendages.
The Aquastrider has a vibrant green coloration, providing excellent camouflage among the aquatic plants and algae that flourish in the riverlands. Its skin is covered in a slimy mucus layer that helps retain moisture and protects it from harmful bacteria present in the swampy environment.
One of the most notable features of the Aquastrider is its long, slender legs, ending in specialized toes with tiny suction cups. These adaptations allow it to effortlessly traverse the slippery surfaces of lily pads and other floating vegetation. The Aquastrider's agile movements and quick reflexes make it an excellent hunter, preying on small fish, insects, and crustaceans.
In addition to its remarkable locomotion skills, the Aquastrider possesses an exceptional ability to hold its breath for extended periods underwater. It can close its nostrils tightly and extract oxygen from the water, enabling it to remain submerged for several minutes while hunting or evading predators.
