Zenko
Zenko is a Kingdom renowned for two things, its unflappable commitment to neutrality, and its production of a rare type of mineral known as weavestone. Zenkonese people are known for their interesting social fascination with learning new languages, where the amount of languages one can speak, and speak fluently, is considered a sign of great social status. This may be due to the Nation's status as a trade center for the nations surrounding it, with traders from Neversun, Alyria, Eastpoint, Piquant, Earthroot, and the Imperium all allowed to congregate here in massive grand markets without any worry about heavy tariffs or political/social discrimination. Zenko is also dominated by a large circular indentation and accompanying mountain range that protects their southern southwestern, southeastern, and then bisects their mainland's, some astrologers say this was due to same ancient massive meteor impact.
This neutrality and commitment to trade is paired perfectly, and likely due to, a incredibly rare resource found primarily within Zenko, and in very rare clusters elsewhere in the world, weavestone. Weavestone has a crystalline structure and its purity is generally marked by the hues that it takes, with white luminescent weavestone generally considered to be the most pure, certain impurities can actually produce effects that are considered desirable, for instance, powdered red weavestone mixed into an explosive may increase its yield. Weavestone is used in all fields that involve magic, from alchemy, to spellcasting, to advanced forms of engineering making the resource incredibly valuable to all individuals who can afford it. Due to this Earthroot, Neversun, and Eastpoint have special trade relations with Zenko, allowing for free transport of Weavestone through their nations, and free docking for Zenkonese ships, so long as Zenko does not charge import prices on Weavestone ordered by the governments of these nations.
Zenko has an interesting relationship to a very foreign nation of Dinte, which produces a material known as Dinterium that can nullify magic and thus interferes with Weavestone, however when these two substances collide the results are often catastrophic and unpredictable. Thus Zenkonese merchants and Dintonian merchants are in a cold war with clients, trying to sell to all they can but never the same clients to avoid explosive circumstances.
Zenko maintains a powerful standing army that makes full use of Weavestone, specially designed masks or suits make sure casters are constantly exposed to the substance, overuse can destroy the body and mind of a spellcaster but the boost in power they get makes them stand up to casters many spell tiers their better.
Fauna & Flora
Riftstalker
The Riftstalker is a mysterious creature native to the mountainous regions of Zenko. It is a predatory creature that possesses unique abilities related to the manipulation of magical energies. The Riftstalker has sleek, ebony fur that seems to absorb light, making it nearly invisible in dark environments. It possesses elongated limbs and sharp claws, allowing it to navigate treacherous terrain with agility and precision. What sets the Riftstalker apart is its ability to sense fluctuations in magical fields and harness them for its own purposes. It can create temporary rifts in space, allowing it to teleport short distances and ambush unsuspecting prey. The Riftstalker is highly sought after by Weavestone researchers and mages for its innate connection to magic and its potential applications in spellcasting and dimensional manipulation.
Harmonia Vine
The Harmonia Vine is a unique plant native to the kingdom of Zenko. It is a climbing vine that flourishes in the fertile soils of the region. The vine's leaves are lush and vibrant, ranging in color from deep green to rich purple. What makes the Harmonia Vine special is its ability to absorb and harmonize with magical energies in its surroundings. The vine acts as a conduit, channeling and amplifying magical currents, making it a valuable resource for spellcasters. The Zenkonese have mastered the cultivation of the Harmonia Vine, using it in the production of enchanted potions, elixirs, and spellcasting catalysts.
Lumisnake
The Lumisnake is a unique reptilian creature that dwells in the forests and grasslands of Zenko. It has iridescent scales that emit a soft, soothing glow in various colors such as blue, green, and violet. The Lumisnake's bioluminescence is believed to be a result of consuming small quantities of weavestone-laden plants in its diet. The luminescent patterns on its scales serve multiple purposes, including attracting prey and communicating with other members of its species. The Lumisnake has also developed a natural resistance to magic due to its exposure to weavestone-infused plants, making it a challenging opponent for spellcasters who rely on magical attacks.
Weavestone Rice, also known as "Flavorweave Rice"
Weavestone Rice is a rare and highly coveted grain grown exclusively in the fertile fields of Zenko. This extraordinary rice owes its unique characteristics to the mystical influence of weavestone, which infuses the grains with subtle and ever-changing flavors.
Each harvest of Weavestone Rice brings forth a myriad of distinct flavors, ranging from delicate floral notes to hints of exotic spices, and even bursts of fruity sweetness. The weavestone-infused soil and the presence of latent magical energies interact with the rice plants, resulting in a diverse spectrum of taste profiles.
The flavors of Weavestone Rice are not predetermined but rather emerge spontaneously during the growth process. Zenkonese farmers carefully monitor the rice paddies, waiting for the telltale signs that the grains have absorbed the essence of the weavestone. Once the flavors have matured, the rice is harvested and sorted into different varieties based on their distinct taste characteristics.
Zenko has become renowned for its annual Rice Festival, where merchants and dignitaries from neighboring nations gather to sample the latest harvest of Weavestone Rice. The festival showcases a wide array of flavors, inviting guests to experience the extraordinary diversity and complexity of this enchanted grain.
Certain varieties of Weavestone Rice have gained prestigious reputations in other nations, where they are eagerly sought after by esteemed chefs and discerning connoisseurs. The flavors present themselves sporadically, adding an air of mystery and anticipation to each harvest. The prized varieties are often auctioned off to the highest bidders, commanding exorbitant prices due to their rarity and exquisite taste.
Weavestone Rice has become a symbol of Zenko's unique connection to magic and its ability to enchant even the simplest of ingredients. The rice not only serves as a culinary delight but also embodies the harmonious blend of nature, magic, and culinary artistry that defines the nation of Zenko.
