Iron

It's hard to describe... Holding that sword made my body feel quiet, as though a noise in the background had been abruptly silenced. And yet, when I let go, the sound didn't resume with a scream, but a low thrum. I suppose that was magic coming back.

Iron is a metal found abundantly throughout Tiyu Amara, though it can be rare regionally. It is among the toughest metals used commonly by humans, though it finds more use for its unique Magic-nullifying property.

Properties

In its ore form, iron can be found all across the world, though it is most frequent in the Skarhu region of Abravost and in the Dividing Mountains of Thurásin. Unlike other abundant metals like bronze and silver, iron can prevent the casting of most magics when it is worn, held, or in a close vicinity. This property makes iron very difficult to work, and those who learn to do so are among the best metalworkers in the field.
You can be an accomplished metalworker and still be awful with iron. After all, most of our techniques involve magic, and iron so stubbornly refuses to let us use it that even the most trained goldsmith will falter before it.

Trade

For the people living in the Kixunyájel Desert of eastern Thurásin, their large quantities of iron are a lifeline. Entire cities are dedicated solely to its extraction, refinement, and export, and the kingdom of Ngáxom relies on this trade for most of its food and water. Within Thurásin, Ngáxomes iron is among the highest quality for this reason.   A similar respect is afforded to the ironworkers of south-western Skarhu, whose supply of iron was the cause for their conquest many hundreds of years ago. Even today their work is strongly desired by countries like the Vosti Empire, and many trade 'wars' have been fought over access to it.
