Juyo Olovind Youlaje
"Where is Corporal Olivind, soldier?"Juyo Olivind Youlaje is a half-elf of mixed Vosti-Suungkee ancestry who held the rank of Corporal in the Vosti Imperial Army. She abandoned her post on the 29th of Yaros 425 AC to avoid the army's deployment in the south-west, and has since taken up arms for the Meduran Liberty Alliance in their effort for independence.
"I don't know, Sergeant. I did not see her."
"Bullshit. You know what she's done. Where did she go?"
History
Juyo was raised in the city of Kosdon in the north east of the Vosti Empire, the 5th child of a Vosti stone carver and a Suungkee miner. She was never expected to inherit the family business of stone carving, nor become a miner like her father, and was instead raised with the hope she would join the Vosti Imperial Army as a proud soldier. However, Juyo had little interest in that career, and spent most of her adolescence attending a local high school with no aims or ambitions for her future. It was at her high school that she was introduced to the Meduran Liberty Alliance, as her school was not far from the Ordeona Estate and bore witness to some of the aftermath of the raid in 417 AC. Previously a very secretive organisation the raid catapulted them into relevance and public knowledge, and captured Juyo's attention. She kept an ear out for news, and ended up joining a local chapter of the MLA with a handful of high school friends in 420 AC. In her discussions with the older members, they encouraged her to first and foremost pursue the career that made her happiest, but did point out the value of military training for the potential conflicts which lay in the MLA's future. With that, Juyo's career was decided, and she enlisted in the Vosti Imperial Army the following year upon graduation. Her military experience was typical for a soldier in peacetime - boring and deeply tedious, with more time spent on cleaning and menial tasks than on combat. The exception to this was when her unit was deployed in 424 to patrol the streets of Kosdon with the intention of finding MLA meetings and scaring members into submission. While her unit saw no conflict with locals, the stress of potentially having to betray her cause and not making her reservations obvious to her colleagues felt impossible. Despite this she refused to request a reassignment, worrying this would make her allegiance too obvious. The stress of her brief deployment and the flippance with which her superiors regarded the reservations of her comrades solidified her belief in the Liberty Alliance's cause. Viewing it as firm proof of the Empire's refusal to compromise or negotiate, she made plans to not re-enlist. This proved unnecessary, as the Empire was drawn into a civil war in early 424, and Emperor Brimeon IV gave the order for the Army to mobilise in the south-west. Seeing the signs, shortly after the order was given, Juyo disappeared from her camp and made for Kosdon. Pledging her services to the MLA's president, Zilian Ordeona, Juyo was part of the initial group who declared the independent Federal Republic of The Medura, and she was made part of the President's Guard.
