The Koshi Incident
We'd warned the guard, y'know. Some weird things'd been happening in that forest, strange sounds in the night, weird carcasses. Now half the families in the area are planning to move away, change careers, what have you, all on account a her. Poor dear. The Koshi Incident was a strange event in the forest south of Sinofis, wherein the local huntress Koshi Varmand formed a pact with a Divinity and wreaked havoc in the city outskirts. A great deal of mystery still surrounds this event, with many debates over who is ultimately responsible for her rampage.
The Disappearance
On the morning of the 19th of Pomid, Koshi Varmand left her family farm to go hunt in the forest south of the property. When she had not returned for lunch, her older brother went to see if he could track her down, but he returned alone a few hours later. With still no sign of her, word was sent to the city guard, and her family mustered some of their neighbours to do a sweep of the forest. The guard arrived in force the following morning to do a more thorough search of the woods, aided by Koshi's brother and father. Neighbours were questioned about their whereabouts and activities the previous afternoon, and rumours of foul play began to swirl. At this stage, however, many of the guards assumed Koshi had simply been injured and forced to remain in the forest overnight. The Incident
That afternoon, with no warning, a burst of light erupted in the forest, creating a deep crater. Shortly thereafter, Koshi emerged from among the trees, glowing with violent light. Those who encountered her first swiftly found themselves struck down by huge bursts of energy, including her father and brother. As she advanced further north, panic spread quickly. Attempts to communicate with her failed utterly, and those who tried found themselves injured or killed by her powerful magic. Eventually, the city guard were able to successfully neutralise her by sacrificing a few of their members so that one, Yengchu Nuulje-Favel, could cast a "Banishment Spell" that knocked her unconscious. The Aftermath
Koshi did not regain consciousness for several days after the incident, and when she came to, had no knowledge of the event or its immediate precedings. She was not even able to say what had happened on the morning and afternoon of the 19th, only recalling she had 'probably' gone out to hunt. The conclusion the guard came to was that at some point on the 20th, she had formed a pact with a member of the Divinities, granting her god-like power in exchange for something - in this case, apparently one of her eyes. However, which Divinity, when, and how is not known. A thorough investigation of the crater, its surrounds, and the path she tore through the forest was undertaken in the days and weeks after. 19 bodies were recovered at various locations, and another dozen people injured, though it is suspected there are more who were so injured by Koshi that they could not be identified.Involvement of Necromancy
During this investigation, a necromancer named Támjol Eliodan was arrested nearby. When he was questioned about his knowledge of what had occurred, he gave surprisingly detailed answers, though he claimed he had learnt about it by talking to the many ghosts who had been haunting the crater. According to him, Koshi had been kidnapped by a small group of mages and necromancers. Using her, they were going to make contact with the Divinity of Change and request a portal to the elf home plane. His contacts were under the impression they had successfully made contact, but that Koshi had taken control of the connection and used it to form a pact, and then used that power to destroy their underground lair completely. Though he has claimed that he had no involvement in the events whatsoever, the majority of the city guard and the populace who are aware of him hold him responsible for the incident, despite a lack of evidence.Yengchu Nuulje-Favel

Divine Pact
In most pacts, the mortal involved is completely aware of its formation, and with which divinity they have made an agreement. Neither is true in Koshi's case, as she has no memory of forming the pact and has had great difficulty in communicating with her 'patron' in the months since the incident. This is due to a strange quirk of her pact, being that her divinity has chosen to communicate solely in the local Elven language, which Koshi does not speak. Typically the divine will speak whichever languages the pactees do, but it is not unheard of for individuals to briefly speak with the 'wrong language' before the misunderstanding is cleared up. The lack of communication, combined with the fact that Koshi appears to be 'possessed' every time she accesses divine power, has rendered all attempts to harness her powers unsuccessful, with many guards being injured during various attempts to help her.Fireworks by davidgarry
