Zoivas I
King Zoivas I of Dätsalöl
Of the many monarchs of Thurásin - and believe me sir, I have met many! - I've not met one with anywhere near as little presence as he. Were it not for the gaudy dress all monarchs share, and the obnoxiousness of the gilt crown on his head, I suspect he would vanish into the curtains without so much as a sound.King Zoivas I is the current ruler of the Kingdom of Dätsalöl, having ascended to the throne 7 years ago in 32 Return. An absolute monarch in name only, he is a timid king greatly swayed by the input of the nobles and rich elites around him, as well as more unusual sources.
History
Zoivas was born the second of two children to King Wonen II of Dätsalöl, and upon his birth became the heir apparent of the realm. As such, he was raised in absolute luxury and with a keen eye to his 'inevitable' ascension to the royal throne, being given a sterling education in linguistics and diplomacy. While a bright and studious boy, his demeanour left much to be desired by the court, as he was significantly shyer than his older sister and would regularly hide behind her in public, as well as bearing a notable stammer in public speech. This improved somewhat with the arrival of a new head nurse, Grandmother Prima, who helped to tutor the boy in calming his nerves. Though his timidness and tendency to agree with those around him without challenge did not go away, his adolescence saw him become somewhat more confident and measured, and many hoped that this trend would improve over the coming decades he would have before he would become King. Unfortunately, Wonen II passed away when he was only 22, and the stress of his passing and the subsequent mountain load of responsibilities thrust upon him turned the young king into a recluse, with very few people outside of the royal court and his immediate family seeing much of him for the first 3 years of his reign. For many, the first time they saw the king in public was at his wedding in 36 Return, when he married the daughter of a minor noble family - a far cry from the foreign princesses commonly married by his predecessors.Family Ties
Zoivas descends from a mostly unbroken long line of Dätsalölayo kings dating back to the kingdom's founding in 25 Reconciliation. Through a series of political intermarriages, he is both a first and second cousin to Ünivis III of Ibza Xüfonz, sharing all the same grandparents. He has only one sibling - his older sister Ainish, who is married to an Äshrrowädhayo prince. Through his wife Ihai, he is connected to a minor barony in his kingdom, and through his mother is connected to the Danzothe family of Tsonachla.Mental characteristics
