Nova Spawning

Overview

Nova Spawning is a rare celestial event brought about by a large interstellar being known as the "Solar Mother," a large whale-like creature that lives in the depths of space and uses stars as the place to birth her young. While little is known about the origins or purpose of Solar Mothers since they are very timid creatures by nature, the birthing of the young is a delightful spectacle that attracts ships and species from far and wide to witness the event.   Towards the end of a Solar Mother's life, she will begin to make her way towards her nearest star. Here she will start swimming around the star's photosphere, and their unique biology and toughened skin make them immune to the immense heat that even the most advanced starships would find challenging. During this "sun-swim," as many call it, the Solar Mother ingests large quantities of stellar matter to provide nutrition for her young; this can take place over several weeks or months, depending on the size of the brood.   Once ready to birth her young, the Solar Mother will dive deeper into the sun for several days, disappearing entirely from view. After this, suddenly and without warning, a large solar flare will erupt from the surface of the star, glistening in a multitude of colors. Propelled along with the flare will be the offspring of the Solar mother, all swimming off to start their slow cruise through the stars. For many, this amazing solar event marks an important milestone, with many treating the Solar Mother as the universe's self-appointed reminder of the cycle of life. Regrettably, it appears the birthing of the young results in the adult's death, a deeper reminder of renewal and the cycle of life and death.

Note

Another reason the event attracts many onlookers is not only due to its rarity or the spectacles symbolism but also due to the ejected stellar matter containing fragments of the original Solar Mothers exoskeleton which is hight prized by scavengers for its heat resistant properties.
