The Underground Brick

These Bricks are only made by those who work for the UK's criminal magical organisation known as the Underground. They are the suppliers and sellers of all things illegal, borderline illegal, and morally incorrect, that are also magical in nature. This includes everything from magical assassins to smuggled Cryptids, untraceable teleport items to focus potions.   In order to read the brick, one must be in possession of an amulet or bracelet provided by Underground merchants and important customers. This piece of jewellery has been enchanted to allow the user to see the subtle aura surrounding Underground Bricks, making it easier to see the visible scratches and possible to see the magically hidden ones. These scratches are usually a basic written form of Underground Code and cannot be deciphered by those who do not have an understanding of the language.   The location of the Brick on the building (i.e. whether it's closer or further from the ground) changes each time a new one is made, in order to keep the DMI on their toes.

Manufacturing process

Firstly, an ordinary brick of a building in a predetermined location will be picked by the maker. The maker will then scratch marks into the surface of the brick. Next, a type of glamour will be applied, to hide a portion of the scratches from view to those who do not possess the correct enchanted item.

Significance

An ordinary brick to any outsider, the Underground Brick marks directions and details for the location of the nearest Underground market. It is extremely important to the Underground trade, as it provides their customers and potential investors with directions to markets, suppliers and meeting locations. It is therefore extremely well hidden as the Underground cannot afford to allow the DMI to find their locations.     Less subtle Bricks can be found without the use of enchanted jewellery, but they are only used to give directions to not-entirely-illegal merchants. For example, those willing to sell focus potions to students without ID or prescriptions.
