sand bear

A large pack animal used to tow sleds similar looking to a ground sloth. They are long-haired in the winter, and shed in the spring. Because their meat becomes rancid immediately after death they are not used for food. In fact, they are revered (though not sacred) as a utile pet, with which many owners create a bond (such as a horse). Sand Bears can go long periods without food or water and are therefore ideal for pulling sleds during long journeys.
