Throat Leeches

Throat Leeches are a parasitic infection that can sometimes be caught by people in Velnar. The microscopic form of the leeches hang suspended in infected water. If a living creature consumes the water without boiling it first, the leeches enter the creature's throat, attach themselves, and begin feasting on their host's blood. They become increasingly engorged, until they cut off the host's airflow, causing them to choke and eventually asphyxiate. The adult leeches then break free and make their way back to a source of water.
