Idyll: The Faerie Realm

Introduction to Idyll Known to some as Faerie, Idyll represents a dimension of enigma and paradox, home to the True Fae and the former prison of all changelings. A mysterious boundary known as the Thicket divides this realm from the prime plane, hinting at the complexity and wonder that lies beyond.
Essence of Idyll Idyll is a realm that captivates with its sublime allure and a beauty that borders on the terrifying. It is an eclectic land where joy is immortalized in twisted gardens, and where mountains are crafted from bones half-consumed. Faerie — a secondary name for Idyll — boasts anachronistic contrasts: primeval forests entwine with urban jungles of contorted metal and shattered glass resembling delicate snowflakes. Time-worn Victorian estates loom over shores littered with shipwrecks, all enveloped by the dense, maze-like expanses of the Thicket.
Idyll defies certainty, with every known aspect potentially just the hallucinations of those unable to distinguish reality from illusion, truth from dream.
The Unreliable Narratives of Idyll Accounts of Idyll are as unreliable as dreams. Those few who return from the Fae domain are irrevocably altered, their grasp on reality as elusive as the realm they escaped. Some, perhaps mercifully, forget their time in Idyll completely. The journey alone, through the Thicket's thorns, is a trial of both flesh and sanity, save for the native inhabitants — rumored embodiments of the land itself, impervious to its mind-warping effects.
The Contradictory Nature of Faerie The reports from survivors of Idyll are riddled with contradictions. It remains unclear whether these inconsistencies are due to distorted perceptions or if, within Faerie, reality itself is inherently contradictory. Hence, all "facts" about the realm and its denizens are speculative, true only to the moment and place of observation.
The Harsh Realities of Faerie Visitors to Idyll, both cursed and blessed to return, describe Faerie as an inescapable nightmare where conventional reality ceases to exist. Here, laws of nature and magic are incomprehensible, replaced by a chaotic tapestry of pacts and clauses. The social and metaphysical structures within Idyll are in constant flux, influenced by a hierarchy of manipulation and power.
The Fae wield their dominion through Contracts — unbreakable vows that allow them to mold reality itself. These agreements, ancient and recent, grant them omnipotence within their realm.
Access to Idyll Mortal entry to Faerie is governed by the True Fae. While the Thicket may be penetrated by supernatural means, the heart of Idyll remains exclusive to the Fae's invitation. Theories abound regarding other routes into Faerie, but no legend tells of successful return without the Fae's involvement — a testament to the realm's impenetrability or the Fae's intolerance for uninvited guests.
The Idyllic Archetypes Idyll comprises domains, each adhering to specific archetypes with their own laws:
The Noble Manors: Reflecting mortal nobility, bound by the law of Noblesse Oblige.
The Pitiless Elements: Embodying the raw extremes of nature.
The Untamed Wilds: Echoing tales of the ancient Wild Hunt.
Dread Purpose: Defined by intent rather than environment.
