Sonido

The Sonido are mystical entities from the Echo, a vast and ethereal expanse. They are entirely made of resonant sound waves, embodying the essence of music and vibration. Their existence is a perpetual symphony, and they are considered as living melodies that interact with their surroundings through harmonious or discordant vibrations. The origin of the Sonido is a mystery, with no deity claiming their creation, leading to widespread speculation among scholars and mystics.

Physical Description

Sonido are ethereal beings whose forms are ever-changing and nearly intangible. To mortal eyes, they appear as fluid harmonies made visible, moving to an otherworldly rhythm. Each Sonido has a unique appearance, reflective of its individual composition and the sounds that define its being.

Society

Sonido society is built on a complex language of tones and harmonies, allowing them to communicate a range of emotions and thoughts. Their profound connection to music influences and is influenced by the musical traditions of various cultures they encounter. Sonido do not have a conventional life cycle; they never age and, upon the end of their life's melody, dissolve into a chorus of sound, returning to the Echo.

Relations

In interactions with other beings, Sonido communicate through their unique language of music, capable of expressing intricate and profound emotions. This communication method often leads to profound impacts on the cultures and individuals they encounter. Their enigmatic nature and harmonious existence generally foster a sense of wonder and intrigue among other races.

Adventurers

Sonido adventurers are rare, given their unique nature and form. Those who venture beyond the Echo do so to explore the vast array of musical and vibrational experiences found in different worlds. Their journey is often driven by a desire to understand and experience the diverse range of harmonies and rhythms present across various cultures and environments.

OTHER RACIAL TRAITS

Echo Form: For a number of rounds per day equal to its Charisma modifier, the Sonido may gain the incorporeal subtype, with the following modifications:
  • The Sonido takes half damage from non-magic weapons.
  • The Sonido cannot make weapon or natural weapon attacks while in echo form unless it uses a weapon with the ghost touch special ability.
  • Effects originating from corporeal sources that do not deal damage have a 20% chance to fail against the Sonido instead of the normal 50%. Force effect are not subject to this failure chance.
  • The Sonido retains all worn equipment not exceeding its maximum load as well as the benefits from any magic items that grant a continuous effect, but gains no benefit from physical armor or shields.
  • The Sonido uses normal movement speeds (treat moving through solid objects as ground movement).
  • When not on or in a solid or liquid, the Sonido falls slowly and may glide, moving with a speed of 30 feet with maneuverability (perfect), but falling 1 foot for every 5 feet traveled (unless possessing a fly speed).
Activating this ability is a move action and ending it is a free action. It may not activate this ability if carrying a load greater than its maximum load. Should the Sonido become corporeal while in a solid object, it is immediately shunted to the nearest empty space, taking 1d6 untyped damage per 5 feet traveled.   Mouthless: Sonido don’t need to eat or drink to survive. Instead, they absorb the essence of food and drink; this consumes the nutrients of the meal as though it had been eaten, rendering the food useless to others. Sonido consume potions and other ingested materials in the same fashion. Since they never actually ingest anything, they can’t normally be exposed to ingested poisons.
