Savras (SAV-ras)

Overview

Savras was a god of mages and wizards in the service of Mystra, goddess of magic. Some said he was once a mortal, one of the mighty mages who constructed the portals beneath the city of Ravens Bluff beyond the swords coast far north of Toril.

History

Once Savras was a mortal wizard of Halruaa. Savras, a demigod, and Azuth, a wizard with god-like abilities, once duelled when Azuth contended for Savras' place. Savras fell, with Azuth becoming the one god of wizards. Savras was imprisoned in the Scepter of Savras by Azuth, where he remained until the Time of Troubles. Once the Time of Troubles came about Azuth agreed to release Svaras as long as he swore fealty to him, Svaras reluctantly agreed and became a servant to his rival Azuth and became the god of Divination. Being the god of divination, Svaras was commanded to be a servant of Mystra rather unwillingly. He would share with her his divinations of the future while all the while feigning friendship with Azuth and Mystra.
Svaras saw all outcomes and futures, and due to this knew Cyric the god of murder would strike down Mystra and begin the spell plague, instead of reporting this to Mystra he instead saw this as his moment to gain his freedom, he told his followers to collect a number of arcane devices in preparation for an upcoming catastrophe and fled Dweomerheart right before Cyric made his move. Once Cyric killed Mystra the weave collapsed and Dweomerheart was destroyed, this resulted in Mystra and most importantly Azuth Reeling into the endless Astral Sea, this experience resulted in the death of Azuth as was foretold, although Mystra survived. For the remainder of the spell plague Svaras denied taking the title of God of Mages, being instead content with his current portfolio, opting to help his already prepared followers though the cataclysm and growing his center of worship as a result making him the most powerful god associated with mages and magic until Mystra's return.
To this day Svaras uses his power of foresight to reward his most loyal followers and give the mortals of witch he use to walk amongst the sight the gods so greedily kept to themselves for so long. To this day not even the gods are sure what Savras has planned, and that is just the way he would want it to be.

The Scepter of Savras was an incredibly powerful artifact capable of containing the entire essence of a god. Created by the god Azuth and used to contain the deity of divination whose name it came to bear, it was lost for centuries in the Realms.
