The use of souls in real world applications is nothing new. The fabled Te’Yon Imperium has been said to have used souls in their necromantic arts for millennia’s by the time of this writing. It is also presumed that many of the mystical Eldritch beings and subterranean races have used souls for their dimension defying magic and occult rituals respectively.
The difference in this is that most of those prior uses were quite archaic compared to what researchers in Grimm and some sects of Elves are researching now. Those uses were crude bindings to power a single device, corpse, or to power psionic magicks.
Historically creatures of unfathomable power like The Ancients are the most unique in SoulEnergy. Unlike most magicks their abilities come from their innate SoulCasting abilities granting them the power to overcome natural laws instead of an external power. This has enabled things like the Colossi of the High Seas Archipelago, the Dragons of the Ageroth Mountains, or the Giants of Wyrdwem.
Now the frontier for what is becoming known as SoulForging is the use of capturing and storing souls to be used in multiple applications thanks to the Arcane Reservoirs found on The Continent. Grimm has seen some success already in their SoulForge Battery but has yet to be able to contain a full Soul yet with a SoulQuarter being the max reached thus far.
