Half-Breed

Of two worlds yet possessing none of their own

With such an adaptable physiology, and such strong genetic ties to them, human relations with direct descendants of the ancient hominid tribes often result in offspring that are a mixture of both species. Half-breeds are frequently treated as second-class citizens if raised in their non-human parent's culture, and bullied for being different if raised in their human parent's world. This kind of constant adversity forges some half-breeds out of stronger metal, and fractures others. A few very rare half-breeds are raised in loving, caring communities where their differences are celebrated rather than shunned or laughed at. Whatever the case, a half-breed's mixed heritage is often a defining feature of their personality and worldview.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

It is extremely rare for a half-breed to enter into a relationship with another half-breed. In these cases only half-breeds of the same type can produce offspring, which is always full-blooded human. half-breeds who have children with other species produce offspring of the same species as the non-half-breed parent.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Half-breeds generally adopt the social structures of their parents and the society they were raised in.

Facial characteristics

Half-breeds have facial features that are a less extreme version of the non-human parent's own features, and eyes, and hair features like one of their parents, or like a mixture of them. Thus a half-moriedhel might have white hair and green eyes.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Half-breeds are most often named by their non-human parents, thus they rarely have human names.

Beauty Ideals

By some quirk of genetics, half-breeds are almost universally seen as more beautiful and exotic than most any other member of either parent species. They often have nearly perfectly symmetrical features and perfect bodily proportions.

History

Half-breeds have no history of their own. They are largely seen as footnotes in the histories of their parent bloodlines. In addition to that half-breeds have only been around since The Effects of Magic have been known. It is therefore believed that it is only through the existence of magic that half-breeds can exist.

Half-breed skintones and patterns are most often a blend of their parents. Half-olvaredhel might have skin with an olive or slightly green tint to it and a few leaves growing in their hair, for example.
