Gillyweed

The Gillyweed is a rare and highly sought-after plant that is known for its ability to grant the consumer the ability to breathe underwater. This plant has been used by sailors, divers, and other aquatic explorers for centuries, as it allows them to stay underwater for long periods of time without the need for artificial means of oxygen.

Biology

The Gillyweed is typically found in coastal regions and near bodies of water, and is most commonly harvested by skilled herbalists and botanists. It has a distinct appearance, with green leaves and small, delicate flowers. When consumed, the Gillyweed's properties take effect almost immediately, causing the consumer's gills to appear on the neck and allowing them to breathe underwater. The gills disappear when the consumer returns to the surface.
It is worth noting that excessive use of Gillyweed can have negative side effects and it is not recommended to consume it for more than a hour.

Mechanically

Any creature that eats Gillyweed will gain a swimming speed equal to its walking speed and the ability to breath underwater for the next hour.
