Characteristics
Physical features
The medusa’s skin and eyes are reptilian, and a nest of black venomous snakes replaces their hair. When the medusa wishes, beams from their eyes can slowly petrify others to stone.
Abilities
While the medusa’s stone gaze is legendary, they also can move and strike as swiftly as a snake. This enhanced dexterity makes them incredible archers, and most prefer to fight at range.
A medusa is subject to its own curse. By looking vainly on its reflection, it turns to stone as surely as any living mortal. As a result, a medusa destroys or removes any mirrors or reflective surfaces in its lair.
History
Fall of the false god
In 1136 AD, a group of adventurer returned from a quest for
Sseth, now in possession of the artifact the dragon god sought. Welcomed as heroes by the Yuan-ti,
Sistine organized a feast in their honor before they departed once again to meet the god.
However, during this meeting, a meteor fell from the sky, signaling Sseth's demise. Only
Rakon, one of the adventurers, survived the encounter, now wielding Sseth's divine power. With Sseth dead, Sistine's control over chezucore weakened, leading to rebellion among the tortles slaves and a subsequent famine.
Retreating to the Shadowfell, Sistine sought refuge with the vampires of the
Crimson Court, but they refused to intervene in the mortal conflict. Turning to the divine once more, Sistine presented the Yuan-ti with a new god to worship:
Noxia. With the rebellion over and control restored, Sistine regained her authority over the theocracy.
However, in exchange for her help in restoring Sistine's power within the Chezucore Theocracy, Noxia demanded a price. Sistine was to be transformed into a medusa. While many would consider such a transformation a curse, Sistine and the yuan-ti viewed it as a blessing, and she willingly agreed.
Now endowed with the power to petrify her enemies with her gaze, Sistine rules over the yuan-ti as a medusa. This transformation has solidified her authority and augmented her mystical prowess.
