Tortuga Isle
Tortuga Isle is an island that moves with the season. It is the home of The Longstraw Pirates, and under the rule of Kraken King Yrial Maranoss.
Geography
Tortuga Isle is an island on the back of an ancient dragon turtle. The jagged rock on its shell are widly varied in height and shape, creating the impression of a massive toothy maw. These rocks hide many caverns and tunnels that have inspired numerous local myths of secret hideouts and legendary beasts. The island is barren of greenery, save for the verdant basin in its center, known to locals as the Pit. This small pocket of jungle is the largest source of natural resources on the isle, and its fruit, game, and timber sustain the pirate haven in lean times. The Turtle movemnt make the water around the Isle dangerous, and it has claimed many ships over the years. The draogn turtle is named Idok, and is under the effect of a geas spell casted by the Kraken King, the pirates leader, forcing hte turtle to stay afloat and to carry the pirates headquarters. The Kraken king being a warlock of Tromokratis have dominion over the ancient dragon turtle.Description
The town's many ramshackle structures sprawl across numerous rock shelves and caverns, connected by bridges, tunnels, and rickety platforms. Around the base of the jagged rocks is a string of tangled docks used by the many ships of The Longstraw Pirates, while other fortifications bristle with cannons. Other siege weapons dot the jagged edges of the isle. A series of watchtowers keeps vigil over the inlet, their torches flickering within the midnight fog.- Sundry Square: The market area of Darktow where commercial goods and pirated contraband are sold.
- The Bloated Cup: A rowdy tavern located near the docks, popular with the pirates of the Island.
The Throne Roost
The Throne Roost is the lair and seat of power of The Kraken King, set high in the cliffs of Tortuga. It is placed in a cave mouth that is warm with firelight. The Roost is a 100-foot climb up the cliff face, occasionally lit by torches, some of which have been replaced with a wooden pike holding a skull or a head in varying stages of decay. The stone stairs vary from two feet wide to maybe a foot at times. The stairs stop at a wide stone shelf that overlooks the town, just above the rocky waters of the inlet. The throne is carved from the surrounding rock, and is surrounded with stools.Society
Darktow Isle is ruled by the Kraken King. Currently, the Kraken King is Yrial Maranoss. There is a strict law on this island: If anyone double-crosses anyone else within the bounds of the city, they will have the hammer of the Kraken King down upon them. When a ship of the Longstraw Pirates arrives on the island they must declare the amount of their profits, and from that there is a tithe offer (25-30%) to the Kraken King. Longstraw Pirates members do not have to pay for repairs and have asylum on the island.Trade
