Living Legend Ludwig

Summary

The legend about the living legend Ludwig tells about the long dead general of the old garfol kingdom and how strong in battle he was. The legend says that he was nearly unbeatable in combat and only a vast outnumbering army was his death. Even against the enemy army he proved that he could outmaneuver even the biggest army, but sadly his army was too small for such a foe. He understood from the beginning that he lost already the battle and only wanted to cause as much damage as possible with risking as little life as possible. At the end Ludwig let everybody who wanted retread from the battle. As his man routed from the field he stood alone with his dearest companies and friends and fought against the overwhelming number. They fought against the enemy to delay them as much as possible. The enemy general who wanted the head of Ludwig over everything else fell for it. Ludwig as the legend goas was the last who battle against the army and delayed them so much that the routing army could run in to nearby castles.

Historical Basis

The most accurate source of the legend is probably the history books inside the grand library, but not many people have aces to it, so many sticks to the exaggerated songs, poems and pictures.
The legend about Ludwig is based upon the real royal general lord Ludwig from the Friedsassen family, which were an influential family at the time. His tactical and strategic superiority won him many wars and many enemies in the surrounding nations.

Spread

Ludwig was infamous even before he became the royal general, for being smart and a strong fighter. But after the first few battle as the royal general, his renown skyrocketed to the point that lord with smaller armies surrender when they saw his banner or saw him in person. But after his triumph over the Roneron kingdom his old renown paled in comparison to his new. Everybody at least heard his name in the northern part of the continent.
After his death the rumours spread over the entire continent and with it the old garfol kingdom had a status off invincibility, for a short time. But to this day people who lead military units tend to use Ludwig as an example as an exceptional military genius and thus over the time he got elevated to such a height that no one ever could imagine reaching.

Cultural Reception

The stories about Ludwig spread first only through the old garfol kingdom. He became a symbol of victory and intelligence. He had great support by the king, because people felt safe if he was in the city. So, the king hired bards and writers to spread Ludwig’s fame.
The nobles from other kingdoms and nation spread false rumours about Ludwig, but he easily invalidated them, when he conquered castles and cities. He was very nice to the conquered ones and guaranteed their safety and wellbeing.
Inside the Roneron kingdom he was seen as a vicious human that wanted to steel their land and kill their families. Through out history, as long as he was remembered, people off the Roneron kingdom disliked him or even strait out hated him. It didn’t helped that he conquered parts of their land.

In Literature

Ludwig inspired many people in different ways. Many bards from the old garfol kingdom wrote poems or songs about him. A few writers tried to write epos about him. Many people failed to satisfy Ludwig, as he didn’t agree with the exaggeration, but after his death the legend around him were created everywhere.
Some generals wrote about his tactic and how it inspired them to change theirs. After his death a general who was an enthusiast of Ludwig collected many of his tactical advice that he wrote to his subordinate generals and created a tactical guide book.

In Art

Many artists strived to draw the living legend, but only a handful of pictures were ever created. After his death many unknown artists tried to create their own version of Ludwig. Today many collectors pay big sums to get originals.
