Cult of Zehir

A strange cult long dead that is attempting, at least according the the strange Dragonborn, to revive Zehir in physical form. As to how or why, she wasn't so kind to explain.

All that is known is their previous history, their fall from grace, and now their apparent incubation and resurrection.

Public Agenda

After a failed grab for power in the Sword Coast in the year 1374 DR, they laid in wait for another opprotunity to strike. The various sects seem to opperate independantly of eachother, but they all seem to be obsessed with seizing places of power from various neutral and good aligned deities.

History

In 1374 DR, Zehir, commanding the yuan-ti House Se'Sehen, planned to take control of the Chultan Peninsula and the Sword Coast North. Adventurers working with House Sauringar's leader Sa'Sani defeated his herald, a powerfully built giant yuan-ti abomination wearing a headdress, and then got the chance to converse with the deity, appearing as two huge, red floating eyes set in scaly sockets and with feathery eyebrows. The voice that issued forth from this apparition was calm and confident. Despite the fact that his plan was ruined, he revealed that it was but one of many schemes that he was sponsoring all over the world. The aasimar Shadow Thief Belueth the Calm, who had traveled with the adventuring party that defeated the herald, took to hunting and killing his Snaketongue cultists following these events.

Disbandment

After the failed power grab in 1374 DR, it seemed as if the cultists had all faded into the background. There were a few sects, both old and new, that have kept the religion itself alive without evoking the darker aspects of Zehir, believing him to also be the God of the nightfall, and his influence stretches beyond the realm of death and assassins.

These sects, for obvious reasons, live an uneasy relationship with anyone who finds themselves homed near them. Other than them, the true cult has seemed dead until now.

Ethics

Their methods are aggressive, yet subtle. They like their wishes to be carried out quietly, but boldly and did not forgive failure, though those who continued to please Zehir could expect to be richly rewarded.

Priesthood

Zehiric clerics were called Venomers and he drew many worshipers from the ranks of the yuan-ti that were unhappy with the detachment of Sseth. High-ranking clerics were referred to as "Low Priests". In a society of snake men, being low was considered a positive attribute. The unholy gesture of Zehir was the sign of fangs.
