Karats
This is an early version of this article
Karats are a Toril-specific currency for the Warrens of the Harengon campaign. They are used for purchasing high-value magical and non-magical items.
What They Are Used For:
In the Lost Lair of the Manticore game, items were granted for free at various levels; additional items (including the officer-items) were available for purchase with XP.
For the Warrens of the Harengon game, we've created a new currency that will allow people to buy items whenever they have enough currency, without using XP for something other than character advancement.
Awards:
Karats will awarded for certain actions during meetings, completing the various Harengon games, or as milestone awards for the club.
Exchange Rates:
Karats translate to roughly 10gp for Common, Uncommon and Rare items, as well as expensive non-magical items such as silvered weapons, masterwork items, expensive armor sets or specialty potions. Where the prices of items don't round to 10, or where a player is short of karats, they may substitute gold to make up the difference.
To spend your karats, all you need to do is convince Lucinda the Seaworthy to make the trade.
