The Octopode is based on the octopus, and is the least humanoid of the animal races.
It appears as an upright mass of tentacles, but unlike their illithid brethren, they are naturally occurring creatures. They are not aberrations, ancient evils, extra-planar travelers or anything else they are accused of being. That said, they are very strange to look at, as human minds expect neither the shape, color or orientation and so they are treated with caution even among those who should know better.
They are highly intelligent creatures, and while they are different they do have a strange, different mindset--so often are neutral to others.
They are often collectors of information, items, mysteries and people. While they tend to be solitary, if they "collect" another creature, they will be fiercely loyal to that person. They also tend to get obsessed with the things they collect, which comes as standoffish or misguided to others who don't share their passion.

Attributes |
+2 Intelligence, +1 Dexterity (Alt +2/+1 in any stats) |
Ability: Amphibious |
They can breathe in air and water equally well. However, if they are out of the water for more than 24 hours, they must submerge or moisturize themselves for 10 minutes or suffer a level of exhaustion from Air Fatigue, as their body stiffens and loses some of its aquatic properties. This exhaustion level can only be restored by the required submersion |
Ability: Different Body |
Due to their flexible and changing bodies, octopodes have proficiency in Stealth, have advantage on Dex(Stealth) checks made underwater, and advantage on Dex(Athletics) to escape from bonds. If an octopode is suffering from Air Fatigue, they lose the stealth and escape advantage until they can moisturize themselves. |
Ability: Multi-limbed |
Octopodes have two legs, two primary arms, and four secondary arms. Those secondary arms can be used to do simple tasks, such as holding, opening, pushing, dropping, lifting. This includes the ability to hold a shield while using a two handed weapon or to gain an additional item interaction in a round (such as retrieving a potion) |
Ability: Dark Vision 60' |
A octopode often lives in dark trenches, deepwater areas. As such they can see in or out of water up to 60' in darkness. |
Ability: Languages' |
Octopode can speak common, Aquan and one other language |
Class Considerations
Because of their innate intelligence, they make solid artificers, wizards and eldritch knights. Their dexterity bonus and water breathing makes them effective rogues, rangers and similar.
