The Bitter Blade was an inn of bad reputation located in the city of Phlan.
Location
Located on the waterfront close to the docks, the rooms of the Bitter Blade were rented mostly to sailors and wayfarers.
Structure
The inn was a rather large building, offering 20 rooms that could accommodate 4 to 6 guests each. From the outside, it looked like a well-run and respectable place.
Interior
Atmosphere
The bad reputation of the Bitter Blade was caused by several factors, among which was the dishonesty of the owner, who would often rent rooms to multiple parties, causing fights between the tenants, as well as the fact that it was the meeting place of the malcontents of the city.
Services
Guests at the inn could get food, drink, and a room for the cost of 6 gp per night.
Every other fortnight a "secret" meeting was organized by the owner, inviting the locals who were unhappy with the current government. During those meetings the attendees would usually speak about doing something against the current government—but it was mostly just talk.
Defenses
The Bitter Blade was a pretty lawless place. The local watchmen barely intervened when trouble arose in the inn, being far too happy to see the local malcontents in trouble.
Rumors & Legends
Due to being frequented mostly by travelers, the Bitter Blade was a good place to learn rumors about the city and the surrounding region. Unfortunately, the inebriated patrons were also the source of several dubious rumors, such as the one claiming that buccaneers were operating a slave auction near Stormy Bay.
