Session 8 Report
General Summary
Session 8: 4-8-2024
The party is just taking a breather from fighting the Goblins and their pet monster at the gate and throughout the halls of the castle. They decide to press on in order to save Gundren from this place and not risk him getting moved or killed while they rest.
Carefully moving up to the locked door they investigate the room beyond and find that it's blocked by the bulk of a large creature. Going to the left down the hall they engage a band of Goblins and Hobgoblins taking them by suprise. They hear the roar of an owlbear from the behind the locked door. Soon after a massive crash of a creature storming outside and suddenly the walls start to shake.
Interrogating the remaining Goblin quickly they learn that the owlbear belongs to King Grol and he rides it into battle. However Gundren Rockseeker is being kept in the same room so the adventures go in and find the outer wall collapsed and something large has broken out. They find the dwarf unconscious in the corner and carry him outside. The shaking returns and the party dispatches the goblins quickly and head for an exit through the gates. Once outside the ground errupts in a minor earthquake and they're knocked down! An owlbear with a goblin rider on it's back comes around the corner and starts flinging spells at the party.
The owlbear seems to be controlled by the Goblin somehow and blocks every attack made by the party. Artigar attempts to befriend the creature through magic but fails and Fa-Medve manages to make the creatures believe he is a friend. He succesfully persuades the goblin to dismount.
After a long battle with Trix, Fa-Medve and Artigar bleeding out down on the ground Torold deals the finishing the blow to the goblin king and the party lets the wounded owlbear run off. They take the unconscious dwarf and limp to their campsite from the night before and have a long rest.
They learn from Gundren Rockseeker that King Grol was having an arguement about payment with a strange creature that could change it's face. He asks the party to escort him back to Phandalin so they can regroup and plan for a way to retake the Wave Echo Cave.
One morning in camp the alarm suddenly goes off and Trix notices some black masked men off in the distance. After seeing everyone wake up in camp they manage to slip off into the forest and disappear. Trix explains there are some people after him because he stole money from them.
Reshy says his farewells and explains his spectral bird is bidding him to go in another direction. He leaves his gold with the party after being asked by Fa-Medve and heads off to further his own adventures in the forests north of Neverwinter.
Once back in town the party takes it easy and rests up. They visited in the tavern in the evening by Gundren Rockseeker, Sildar Hallwinter and Elmina Barthen to receive their payment of 1000 gold and the dwarf offers them a 10% interest in the mine if they help him clear it out and save his brothers.
