Creation of the races

The gods took the progenitor race and each faction went apart to create separate races of mortals derived from Ao's gift.
Humans - Humanity was the most difficult race the gods could not agree what their defining trait should be. There was no chief god among the pantheon to steer the course. So it was decided that the humans would get a powerful gift. They were molded from unfired clay, their gift would be potential, the ability to change and adapt and the ambition to become more than they are.
Dwarves - Mordain is known as the father of the dwarven race for good reason he forged them from Mithril. Ensuring they would be a strong and resilient people and infused in them his love of craft and making and they have always had an affinity for that which is born from the earth.
Elves - Corollon is the father of the elven race and had an advantage over the other gods, he had already created races of his own, the Shee of the feywild were his and already old in this age. To his mortal elves he gave the same love of nature and magic that he shared with his fey, crafting the elves from the branches of elm trees. Ensuring their long life and the flexibility to endure hardships.
Gnomes - The Gnomish race is often considered a cousin of the Dwarves and this is not unfounded. The first gnomes were crafted from bright gemstones and so they share the dwarven affinity for things of the earth. They were given a love of precision and craft and they're diminutive size to help with minute detail.
Halflings - It is unclear where the Halfling race came from, even there own creation myths are vague about the idea. Many think of them as an offshoot of humanity but this does not seem to be the case. Among halflings the most common belief is that Yondalla tilled a large field and planted seeds (the type will depend on the halfling telling the story and will often relate to the crop grown best on their farm). And from these seeds sprouted the first halflings, accounting for their love of agricultre and their tendency to live in holes in the ground.
