Scene 2: Kaylessa's Inn, The Swinging Sword
At , the characters have their first introduction to one of the local Red Larchers; Kaylessa Irkell , the owner of the Inn, who's a rather sturdy but pleasant woman. One can tell that it's a busy Inn, considering the number of staff serving in their little bar, and cleaners running around with bedding, clean and dirty laundry, and cleaning supplies.
She introduces herself, ensuring the party that they'll tend to their every need, and that if there are any issues with their stay - she's more than willing to assist.
Kaylessa also introduces a couple of her staff if certain tasks needed to be performed, amongst them is
the maid - if washing or cooking is needed to be done off hours.
was also in the vicinity, and Kaylessa introduces him as the Inn's stablemaster. He can tend and care for your animals if you need some downtime, or if you intend to travel by other means.
As a big fan of adventurers crossing Red Larch, she gladly spills any details she has on what might worry her, or the other Red Larchers. As a firm believer that any adventurer taking action, makes Red Larch just a little safer.
Thus she explains to the characters, how unpleasant she feels with what's gathering in the dark.
She has heard many tales about fogs that persist in The Sumber Hills even in bright sunlight, and sudden gusts of hot wind sweeping west out of the hills where breezes have always been cold.
There have been more violent sights, too, such as sudden bolts of lightning stabbing up from the hills into a clear sky.
“Fell magic,” Kaylessa terms it, though she admits this was an opinion shared with her, and she’s seen none of this herself.
Kaylessa has also noticed some Red Larchers looking both frightened and furtive, and tersely turning aside innocent queries.
Kaylessa has a theory about the source of Red Larch’s recent troubles: it’s all related to an evil presence at
. She says neither the constable nor the town elders have helped her, so she offers a reward to anyone that offers to investigate the place and make sure no sinister forces are lurking there. She marks the location on your map of The Dessarin Valley . Quest: Evil Presence at Lance's Rock .
The adventurers proceed to query her about local blacksmiths, vendors, and other people or locations they should take the time probe of the recent events.
