06 - No Pun. Only Pain.

Our escort arrived in a coach wearing black trousers and a white puffy shirt tied at the wrists, with a black doublet over a muscular build with sandy brown hair. He introduced himself as Don-Jon Raskin, and informs us he was sent by the Sword Coast Miners consortium out of Neverwinter.   We spend a pleasant night drinking and getting to know our charge, while Peter attempts to get some business pointers out of him.   As we travel towards the mines, wee see a low ridge rises to our right, beyond which we could see the Sword Mountains scraping the gray sky. As we get closer in, Peter sees something is strewn across the rocky ground ninety feet ahead.   Approaching he is able to identify the bodies of several Orcs who appear to have extreme frostbite on them, appearing to have been dead about three days, likely the remains from the white dragon we've been seeing in the distance.   Later on we discover the entrance to the mine hidden among bushes, a tunnel burrowing into the foot of a soaring, snow-capped mountain. Above the mouth of the tunnel a wooden plank had the words "Mountain's Toe" carved into it in Common.   As Don-Jon was about to enter we spotted a few Wererats in the entrance to the cave. As we battled them we realized that non-magical effects weren't doing much if anything against them. I managed to drop one of the wererats with spells before the other retreated further into the mine. Spell slots sorely depleted, and with a party sadly lacking in magic, the situation wasn't really looking good.   Peter decided to try a belatedly diplomatic approach following Sahar's greeting punch and began to speak to one of the Wererats, who elected to guide Peter to speak to the leader of the gang who had taken over the mine.   He was able to find out that the Wererats had moved in due to Orcs taking over the ruins they had been staying at.   After much uncertainty we decided to investigate the Orcs, and to see about the rumors of gold near Conyberry while we were at it.   On the way we came across yet another horde of undead, which apparently just litter the entire Sword Coast now. After much suffering we managed to finish them off.
