Kingdom of Galiya
Structure
The king has a lot of the executive power. However, his power is also shared amongst the Council, who each have command of a different area of government, as it were. As of now, the council is made of leaders of the revolution, but there are plans in the future to allow the people to decide who new councillors should be.
Assets
The biggest wealth of the Kingdom is not, in fact, the normally verdant farms or the strength of its people. Galiya is home to vast veins of stone-form Residuum.
History
Galiya is one of the oldest countries still standing. After a famine in the 880s, they were finally invaded and annexed by the Curadas Empire for their 'protection', the King at the time executed and his wife disappearing. The Galyian Revolution over 1023 and 1024 was able to return control to themselves.
Demography and Population
As with most human lands, the majority population is humans of that ethnicity, Galyians . Most of these are in the more rural areas, keeping the farms running. However, there are also a number of Vard of various species having immigrated in, as well as occasional immigrants from the Empire who decided to stay. The Vard are slightly more nomadic, working as traders or swords for hire, whereas Empire immigrants tend to flock to the cities. And every now and then, you'll see someone from the Polar Coast working as the local healer...
Technological Level
Most of their technology, it has to be said, is focused on farming (and lately mining). However, the moderate spread of firearms has also given their military a considerable use. It also has to be said that with no real trade for Residuum anymore, the amount of city folk learning enchantments has increased.
Religion
The population is more spiritual than most, which is to be expected when you live next to a place like the Polar Coast. Under Empire rule this kind of practice was banned and therefore went underground and is now rising again in popularity. There's a lot more focus on the local sprites and spirits than the lofty gods, though obviously there is still worship of them, the most popular being the Sundancer due to the widespread agricultural villages.
Worshipping of the Fae is...discouraged, but nobody wants to be the one to tell them to stop. Just in case.
As ever, worship of the Betrayer Gods is strictly banned.
Foreign Relations
Foreign relations are, to put it lightly, rather strained. They are rather surrounded by countries still in the Empire, and the Empire has forbidden trade with Galiya. In a surprising turn of events trade with the Vard has never been better, but the Polar Coast is still avidly avoided.
Agriculture & Industry
Galiya has always been known for its lush hills leading to plentiful crops and lots of livestock. Indeed, the majority of places are still agriculturally focused. Lately, however, villages and towns have been springing up around Residuum mines.
Education
There's a large disparity of education. The poorer, more rural areas are of course rich with their own wisdom, but not many are classically learned beyond the basics of reading and writing. The noble families, however, have the time and resources to learn about histories, distant cultures and multiple languages (though many of the children tend to wish this wasn't the case). While nobles have their own tutors and sometimes set up schools in their constituents, more rural areas are serviced by wandering teachers.
