Ordun

The Dwarven city-state of Ordun was destroyed nearly in its entirety during the events of the Third Sundering by a Dragon. Despite the defeat of the Ancient Enemy the dragon remained in the mountain stronghold, already enamoured with the treasure within and unwilling to risk death by leaving such a defendable lair. She was finally slain in 902 PS by a group of adventurers who worked to reclaim it. Though the heir to the immediate throne, Thragra Starhewn, was slain along with some of the rest of the party in ensuring its reclamation, dwarven determination and craftsmanship ensured that within a couple of decades the city was restored to its former, glorious state and is beginning to reach the numbers and wealth that it once boasted.

Industry & Trade

As more and more smiths and creators returned to or were trained in Ordun, they began to establish trading routes with nearby settlements. The close proximity to Daijo and somewhat to Yucatan, as well as the many citizens of the Mosaic Valley and their proximity to Feng-Young returning to Ordun, has greatly influenced the smithing styles of Ordun. The combination of these styles and techniques with dwarven smith's hard-earned skill and eye for quality ore have made their weapons and armour, as well as many of their decorative pieces, highly sought after in many parts of Candala.

Guilds and Factions

There are many official Guilds in Ordun, as there often are in dwarven settlements, for those who choose a craft to follow. In Ordun, the Weaver's Guild and the Cook's Guild are especially powerful at this point in time, due to the many cold and hungry winters that the citizens underwent when Ordun was first reclaimed.

History

Considered a threat by The Ancient Enemy, Ordun was targeted by the creatures and people under his command. In 394 PS, after multiple rebuffed attacks by his armies, he sent one of his few and most dangerous assets to them: an old dragon that breathed scalding water and tore through their defences. They were not sufficiently prepared for such a creature, and the majority of the citizens were killed before they were able to escape. Some of the survivors made the hard treks to other dwarven settlements or joined human kingdoms as Domainless Dwarves, but many of them made a new settlement in the Mosaic Valley.   For centuries the dragon holed itself up, utilising the halls of Ordun to ambush and bottleneck the few adventurers that tried to oust it. Its propensity for boiling water and scalding steam meant that the mountain was always shrouded in fog and left the area around it very humid, making it physically hard to breath when close to and within Ordun.   When it was finally tricked and slain in 902 PS by Thragra Starhewn the Redeemer and those loyal to him, citizens from the Mosaic Valley rushed back, with some of the hardiest going first and others following in slower caravans. However, even after the dragon was slain and the oppressive fog lifted, the humidity that had plagued the area for centuries had affected the land around it and turned it into a sort of bog or peatland. Their unfamiliarity of such lands, which mainly exist in the northern continent, greatly attributed to the famines which plagued Ordun for the first few years of their reclamation, as well as the destruction of the farms that used to exist and the lack of trading routes existing. But now they have learnt how to use the peatlands to their advantage for agriculture and livestock and in fact, the unique natures of many of the fauna and flora of Ordun's lands have made them very desirable and helped their recovery.
