Wealth & Financial state

Volo's wealth comes from his writing. As Waterdeep's pre-eminent author, and arguably the most influential writer of guides and how-to adventuring texts, Volo is typically viewed as fabulously wealthy, prone to throwing lavish parties and ostentatious displays of wealth. Volos' flashy lifestyle takes a heavy toll on his finances, and he is prone to periods of heavy debt between book releases. At present, he is "somewhat ill-liquid" due to lower-than-expected sales of his latest book, "Volo's Compendium of Spirits and Cocktails". But Volo is always able to land on his feet, his celebrity easy insurance of further coin.

Once a great adventurer, Volo has gone to seed, allowing his copious book royalties to keep him well-fed and well-off. Waterdeep's most celebrated and prolific author has a tendency to blur hard facts and "interesting stories", but this has not stopped sales of his many guidebooks. Recently, he has had a bit of writer's block...
