The Devastating Wave of 599

Few events can be said to have had such an impact as the tsunami that hit the western coasts of Tosormi in 599. It was this single catastrophe that made the people aware of the fact that the deities had started a war among themselves.

The Tsunami

In the early hours of a warm summer morning in the year 599, people were just starting to wake up when they noticed strange happenings around them. Animals were fleeing inwards land, while the ocean itself was withdrawing in the other direction.   People in these parts had never seen anything like it before, and a lot of curious men, women and children went exploring the now expanded beaches for things that had gotten stuck in the sand as the ocean disappeared. Only the most superstitious people followed the animals to higher ground.   But the water came back with a vengeance. A wave, taller than the tallest trees in the forest, came crashing in over the coast, destroying everything in its path. The destruction were immense, whole villages were wiped out and the death toll was in the thousands.   It is the deadliest catastrophe in recorded history.

The Cause

Although scientists started explaining things like geology, tectonics and the movement of the earth to give some sort of reason to this devastation, the real answer soon arrived from the priesthoods. At the same time, all over Tosormi, every communicator, prophet, truth-teller and fortune-teller of every cult and religion got a vision.   The details in these visions vary from deity to deity, but the core was still the same: the Deities had started a war among each other, unlike anything anyone had seen before.
The scientists called it a 'tsunami'.
The people called it 'death'.

Aftermath

After the catastrophe the whole of Tosormi came together to aid those affected. Immense caravans with supplies were sent to the west to help those who had lost everything.   The priesthood of the Three Deities of Death sent people from all across the country to help with the burial of bodies to help control the spread of disease and to put them to rest.   Overall, a lot of priesthoods helped out. The Deities assured the people that they had never been meant to get caught up in this.   Thanks to this the number of miracles rose remarkably in the months after the disaster.

The image of an ocean receding before a tsunami will never not be frightening for me. D:

Same. I was 10 when the tsunami in Thailand hit and I still remember it so vividly, it's absolutely terrifying.
