Worldember 2023 Homework Prep

Homework week 1

Seeing as I actually do want to use my world for something in the future I've decided to use WorldEmber to write about an area that really would help me out a lot:

Cities!

Or rather, settlements overall. I'm going to try and focus on the capital, but not limit myself to it if I get inspiration for something else. After all I'm trying to use WorldEmber to get back into writing, so I'll go where the inspiration takes me!

Homework week 2

Mini-meta

Scope

My scope during this years WorlEmber will be the capital of Tosormi (which I don't even have a name for...). However, there will possibly be a few articles about other towns or the world in general if I come up with something during writing. But I will try and keep my focus on the capital.

Themes and mood

There will be a mix here. On one hand, the city is currently going through the process of finding its place and how to function after Tosormi gained its independence. This includes a lot of social issues and the like that comes with such a radical change. On the other hand, it is also a place for great development on several levels, which brings both optimism and scepticism.

Goals

The areas I want to try and focus the most on is the social aspect, the divides between classes, how it has changed the last few decades, but also on the religion. The gods are supposed to be a big aspect of the world as a whole and I feel like I've neglected that part a bit. I want to explore what the gods places are in the city.

Category structure

I've decided to just have a category folder for WorldEmber so I don't get stuck on structuring while writing, even if I'm not completely sure if that will make it easier or more difficult for me. Worst case I'll have to look over the categories later in the month.

Homework week 3

I looked over my homepage and fixed some smaller things, but overall I decided to keep it a lot like it was since it encompasses a lot of the feeling I want to convey about the world. It also functions as a reminder for myself on the core of the world.

Homework week 4

My last minute prep has consisted a lot of just going through these homework exercises and main articles for the world I've already written.
I'm also talking a lot with my roomate who is also doing WorldEmber, and we have planned to set aside time to discuss with each other about what we write and function as ball planks for each other, to both keep us on track and to figure out stuff we feel stuck on.
Regarding schedule it will depend on my work schedule as it is very irregular right now, but usually the afternoon or just after dinner.

It's been way too long since I actually did some work on Tosormi, or any world for that matter. December tends to be a really crappy month for me but this year I've decided to try WorldEmber anyway, just because I really miss writing and maybe this will bring back some inspiration. So, wish me luck!
