The heart of a devil is a warm thing, so much so that most would burn simply touching it. But Devils are not born with these hearts, it is merely a facet of their having been born and raised in Hell. Only when they claim a region of Hell as their own do their hearts turn to stone, producing the very fire and magma of Hell itself within them. Becoming brimstone.
Satanael by Jarhed
What is known best as brimstone, however, is not the heart itself of a Devil, though the material is the same. It is only when the Devil dies that their heart becomes "pure brimstone" which is prime to be harvested for its true purpose.
Area Devil
Brimstone carries with it the powers of
Area Devil Abilities. Each chunk of brimstone is the heart of the one that first claimed the ability, and when they die, their heart shrivels into brimstone. Only when this brimstone is eaten is the ability passed on to someone else, and then it can only be passed on again when they die and the brimstone that made up their heart is eaten again.
When one eats brimstone, they get the Area Devil Ability that it carries. If they were not a Devil before, they take on the traits of Hell's residents. Horns grow from their heads, and their body begins producing fire to turn their heart into brimstone.
Other Uses
Brimstone has also been used for its actual material uses as well. It can power the machines of Hell, as it naturally makes fire and lava. It is said as well that the home of
Satanael himself, the God of Hell, has a relation to brimstone as well. A tower known as Hell's Horn, at the center of the ninth layer of Hell,
Crookston, it is curved and stretches up out of sight, shaped like a horn. It is said that Hell's Horn is made entirely of Brimstone, and that Satanael ripped out the hearts of all the Devils that refused to follow him and built an endless tower out of them.
