Flame of Bortan
The Flame of Bortan is a flame-shaped crest of metal. It boosts the magical power of the wielder, as well as allowing them to channel weaker versions of the domain abilities of the God Phrixus's Holy Might.
It is one of many Mightems, or items that contain Holy Might, in Totania.
The Flame
The Flame of Bortan is a flat piece of orange metal. It is shaped like a tongue of flame, with black lines exentuating the shape. These black lines are actually pieces of metal, connecting three separate items together into the Flame.Power
The Flame of Bortan carries with it a great power. It has been said to amplify the magical power of those that wield it. When asked how much it amplifies that power, magical scholars have answered"What? That's not how magic works. There's no quantitative number for how good your magic is."
Iorbor
Despite this, many studies have tried to determine how strong someone gets from this. A famous experiment from a Yirthum Draconian known as Feldus Iorbor was done where he made statues with his earth magic. Then, he would see how much people could destroy it with a single spell. Then, he gave them the Flame of Bortan to see how much more of the statue they could then destroy. The results of this study are believed to have been inconclusive, but it is unclear as Iorbor was killed by the Chief of Bortan before he could publish the results. The Chief was angry that Iorbor had stolen the Flame from Bortan. However, since then, people have assumed the study was inconclusive. This has led to the phrase "Pulling an Iorbor" which means doing something over and over again and expecting a different result. It is believed to be a sign of insanity, especially among Draconians from villages like Yirthum or Tamd.Bortan
Bortan is a militaristic village of Draconians, and the oldest of all the villages. The very first Draconian came from Bortan, though some disagreement caused the splintering that formed other villages like Evity. After the split, Bortan exclusively followed Phrixus. It was one of the only villages to outright endorse Phrixus worship, whereas other villages instead either worshipped Helle only or worshipped Phrixus on the side.Praxian
