Prophet

Prophets are the holy messengers of the Gods, the only ones who are able to hear them when not directly within a Holy Site such as a Temple, Church, or Shrine. They are said to be individuals most blessed by the Gods themselves to carry their will from birth, chosen either by fate or by chance.

Power

Prophets have one particular power: the ability to channel the word of their lord or lady. Some say that the divine whisper to their prophets, though some prophets will disagree.

Prophets sometimes have power to channel some of this divinity, in some cases becoming Champions of their Gods or Head Priests.   However, some power from Prophets comes without a title, like Murphy Law's Wild Magic or the Mightem Dhurnas Blackmane wields. While both became Head Priest, this power long predated that position.

Influence

The influence a prophet can have often varries. Some prophets are well accepted by their religions, while others are doubted for perhaps lying, or thrown away so that what they say may not challenge the current religious doctrine set in place.   Yet that is often why a Prophet is born, to help bring about a reformation. This is most notable in three cases: Shegi the Pious, alongside Briffault Law and her son Murphy Law.

Dhurnas Blackmane by AnthraxSurprise
Shegi was able to commune with Fortuna and found the traveling religion that otherwise never would have existed. Briffault Law brought Athena personally into the Church so that she may be the one to lead rather than the Head Priest, and Murphy Law later led the Zephyrian Reformation when Ram Rodraz took down Briffault's laws. Ram tried to throw Murphy out, but as a prophet, Murphy was able to stand up and win his Church back.   Dhurnas Blackmane, as well, led a great reformation in terms of how beards were viewed by the followers of Hadur. Beards were important, but thanks to Dhurnas they became a centerpoint of Dwarven culture, a symbol of their pride and heritage.

Affiliation

Not all prophets are actually affiliated with their Churches. Some are simply people who embody the teachings of a God, though often they are one who does at least follow the God.

Responsibilities

Many believe that it is the duty of a Prophet to step up and reveal their connection to their God, to reform their religion or help to guide it. However, there are dangers in doing so. Prophets are not always accepted nor are they always right.   For this, there are believed to be many Prophets throughout history who never spoke up, living silently with a God in their head.
