A Service for Veterans
In the late 700s, the Misled Jackals were formed by a human woman named Cathe Vinkrekt. Cathe was a soldier in the Nerodil army who was sick of fighting other peoples wars, especially as she was forced to fight against the Dragon Lord known as Zome, Lord of Red. Cathe felt out of place in the world, as she abandoned the Nerodil army, but as a soldier she had nowhere else to go. She founded a group that would give soldiers and mages a place to belong. A place where they could use their skills for what they wanted, rather than what some tyrannical leader wanted. If they were to die in battle, they may as well do it for themselves and an organization they could believe in. The title Misled Jackals came because Jackals are pack hunters, cooperative creatures that work together. These Jackals, the mercenaries, had been misled into fighting for corrupt armies, yet now, the Misled Jackals meant they finally had their own place. The Jackal
However, it wouldn't be until the 900s that they would grow to international prominence, when a woman going only by the title of "The Jackal" would take over the organization. She was a member of the Paragons of Unity, a cult around the 67th Grand Wizard, the Mighty Herald, and so she knew how to dig her claws into peoples minds.Veterans
The Misled Jackals are an organization that was founded by veterans for veterans, and throughout their history, they recruited those who had fought in everything from small scale battles to large, international wars. Whoever they could help find a home, they would. During their boom in the 900s, there were many groups and armies that the Jackals recruited from. These included:- Veterans from the Draqiroth War
- Veterans from the Triarchy War
- Orcs from Zok's Grand Clan
- Korvian exiles
- Mages who failed the Grand Magic Tournament
- Criminals on the run
- Magic College graduates
- Former Paragons of Unity cultists
Lovely worldbuilding Jarhed, really enjoyed the use of heroforge to illustrate characters. And your quotes are fantastic at helping flesh out the org.
Thank you so much! Heroforge is such an incredible tool that really helps me show more than I'd really ever be able to otherwise, and when it comes to quotes I love them maybe a bit too much sometimes (I always need to show restraint because otherwise I'd add way too many quotes to articles) so I'm definitely pleased with the ones I kept here (and my restraint in removing others).
