Valley of Creation

The Valley of Creation is the point of origin for the Draconian people, where the first Draconian Hatchlings came about, making the foundation of Draconian society in this very valley. It has since been the location that the village Bortan has remained within.

The Draconian Creation Myth

The Dragon Goddess Helle envied the other humanoid species on Totania, particularly the Elves, Orcs, and Dwarves. She wanted to create her own people, aside from the Dragons she had already created.

However, the Dragons had been an issue for the world, so she had been forbidden from creating any new forms of life. The only way around this, she thought, was to find a loophole. A way no one would notice until it was too late.   Thus, she created the Draconians. Dragonlike, but still humanoid as she wanted.   Nine eggs were laid, each hatching separately into nine Draconians. Before they did, however, the Gods believed that they was simply Dragon eggs, as Helle had laid before.   When the first Draconians hatched instead, outrage erupted from the Gods, but the Draconians were shielded from this by the valley.

The First Draconians

Helle created one Draconian of every color in the Valley of Creation to start off the Draconian people. They went on, alongside later hatchlings, to create the village of Bortan in the valley, which later led to a more divided Draconian nation.   The original nine Draconians were, in order of their hatching:
  • Daxur the Red
  •
  • Nurdesh the Green
  •
  • Tilrak the Blue
  •
  • Nimphonker the White
  •
  • Saxan the Black
  •
  • Wrakris the Orange
  •
  • Durzire the Yellow
  •
  • Yelrath the Brown
  •
  • Dione the Purple

Foundation of Civilization in the Valley

Daxur the Red was the first Draconian to hatch, and for a short period of time he was a figure that was rallied around. This ended when Wrakris the Orange began to appear the more inspiring, leaderly figure.   Wrakris the Orange founded Bortan, the first Draconian settlement, at the center of the valley.   The Valley of Creation served as protection for Bortan, keeping them out of sight of the Elves and Dragons.

The War of Creation

This did not last forever. After all, it was near enough to the roost of the Golden Dragon Lord, Kath the Eternal, the oldest and most powerful creature in the world.   Kath arrived, spreading a new faith: Helle's twin brother and the creator of Kath, Phrixus. While Helle ruled over Greed, Envy, and Improvement, Phrixus ruled over Justice, Nobility, and Protection.   Lalraan Tilrak, the son of Tilrak the Blue and successor of Wrakris the Orange as the Village Chief of Bortan, took to Kath's teachings, spreading the faith of Phrixus. However, it was not popular with everyone.   The particularly devout Helle worshippers, led by Talriad Nimphonker, Voleth Saxan, and Krimmic Lormorn, revolted in what became known as the War of Creation, but they were ultimately driven out by the Phrixus worshippers, leaving the Valley of Creation.   Since the Helle worshippers fled, Bortan has remained in the hands of Phrixus worshippers, maintaining control over the Valley of Creation.   Helle worshippers have since desired to reclaim their homeland, waging wars against Bortan or attempting to seize the land by other means, but the Bortanni spirit has remained strong against these settlers, keeping their land in the hands of those native to it.

Geography

The Valley of Creation is a lowered land in Draconian Territory, below sea level but shielded from the coast by the hills and mountains raised over it.   Fertile soil stretches in the valley alongside rocky terrain, making for land that is difficult to traverse, yet incredibly defensible.   Much of the rocks have been mined out for their resources and for construction in Bortan, and Bortanni train on the harsh land around them to be prepared for anything.   At the northeastern edge of the Valley, the Elven Forest is found, stretching slightly into the valley, with some of its trees and grassy land being technically part of the valley.

Around the Valley

The Valley of Creation is at the center of two chains of mountains, though they are not necessarily connected, as well as vast hilled terrain.   The first chain is to the north, at the border with Dwarven Territory, aptly called the Dwarven Mountains. The remainder of the northern border is made up of the trees of the Elven Forest.   To the south is the second chain, with the most notable point here being the tallest mountain on the planet, the Peak of the World.   To the east and west are hills, large swaths of raised land, but none high enough to be considered mountains.
