Wine

Wine is a beverage made of fermented grapes, carrying an alcholic property. Despite this, as opposed to drinks like beer and whiskey, wine has a more upper-class connotation to it.

Fermentation Process

The fermentation process is the way to actually make alcohol out of fruit, more specifically grapes.

The only major step is to take some grape juice and add yeast, creating chemicals that make not only the taste and alcoholic properties of the wine, but also everything else about wine, like its color and smell.   Another additional step is the addition of some chemicals, though this varies depending on where the wine is made. The list of chemicals is not publically available, as the wine manufacturers do not wish for people to know of their methods and replicate their wine.

Types of Wine

There are many different types of wine, though they can mostly be narrowed down to two categories: Red and White. A third category does exist, being that of Rosé Wine, though it is rarely considered with the others.

Red Wine

Red Wine is made not just with grape juice, but also the skins added in the fermentation process. This gives it the red color it is named after.   Red Wine has been said to have a bitter taste but a smooth texture. This wine is most common in Gansernfeld and Yirthum Wine.

White Wine

White Wine is made just with grape juice, with no additional skin. Thus, it lacks the bold color of red wine.   White Wine has a tart taste that distinguishes it from that of Red Wine. It is produced mostly in Alzirgos and Yirthum

Major Wine Exporters

There are four major cities where Wine is produced. These places are the Draconian Village Yirthum, the Human City-state Alzirgos, the Dwarven City of Gansernfeld, and the Mammen City of Ruzrugh.   Of these places, Alzirgos and Gansernfeld have the highest quality wine, and are seen as competitors for the best wine.   The Violet Vipers Squad of the Dwarven Army, who live in Gansernfeld, make it their goal to make great wine that they can lounge around and drink.   Meanwhile, it is the major export of Alzirgos, which many people there devote their lives to making.   In Yirthum, it is one of the products that Elves, who have partial control of Yirthum, ask for them to make. This is so the Elves have a source of wine without needing to trade with Dwarves or Humans.   The less looked to producer of wine is the Mammen of Ruzrugh, who make wine mostly for themselves and Korvians, though it is also shipped throughout the world. It is considered more common swill than other kinds of wine, as it is produced cheaper, though the taste is not as bad as Elone wine manufacturers will make you think.

Rosé Wine

Rosé Wine is the in-between, having slight exposure to grape skins, but not enough to tint it a dark red. Instead it is a pinkish color.   Rosé Wine tastes like an in-between of White and Red (because it is), having a perfect blend of the two flavors. It is made in all wine locations, Gansernfeld, Alzirgos, Yirthum, and Ruzrugh.

Grape Alternatives

Ruzrugh deals mostly in grape alternatives, as grapes cannot grow there. Instead, any grapes are imported.

Instead, they use alternative fruits. Watermelon, berries, peaches, tomatoes, and even some vegetables like onions are used to make wine. The process is slightly different, but it does still make wine.

Non-Wines

That is not the case with apples and honey put under the fermentation process, instead making cider or mead depending on which is used. It is the same process, but it creates a completely different beverage. This is a major part of the art of winemaking.

Famous Winemakers

Winemakers have made their names known throughout history, some even getting their own brands. Here are famous winemakers and their brands.

Lysippos

Lysippos is believed to be the first Alzirgos resident to use their grapes to make wine, creating the idea of White Wine. It is said he accidentally fermented grapes when he was messing around with yeast.   He created a brand known as Doto's Drinks, named after the Goddess of Festivals Doto, who is also associated as the Goddess of Grapes. In the rest of Totania, she is known as Ninatta.

Duliggs

Duliggs was one of the first Generals of the Violet Vipers, and the first to decide they would settle in Gansernfeld. He discovered wine, and is believed to be responsible for why the Violet Vipers became rich and lazy. It was his discovery of wine that did this. His brand is that of the Violet Vipers Wine, a big name associated with a Dwarven Squad, so it has an added reputation.

Antoorom

A Mamman winemaker, Antoorom is the one who made up the idea of using other fruits (and vegetables) to make wine when they were short on grapes. He is a pioneer celebrated for his inventiveness, and is still honored by the Crimson Court to this day.

Grammir

The current General of the Violet Vipers, Grammir has begun to make White Wine to compete with Alzirgos. He also does not go anywhere in public without a glass of wine, which has been a major PR boost that makes him seem more classy and makes wine something people want to buy to emulate Grammir.

Salasar Feaphed

The 64th Grand Wizard is not a major wine producer, but it is said he learned how to make wine from Yirthum and grows his own grapes to make his own supply. Part of this is he wants to gather all information and learn to do anything, while another part is to prevent being poisoned.

The Wine Dimension

There are tales in some regions of the world of a dimension for drunkards. Some say it is the Heavenly Realm of Ninatta, Goddess of Festivals who also has the domain of wine. Others say it is a region of Ishtar's Heaven, where the Dreams and Fertility are only enhanced by the altered state induced by the Wine. Still, other tales tell of a part of Hadur's Heaven, known to be Bathrooms, where Wine is everywhere, and that could be the Wine Dimension. Stories differ on exact specifics when it comes to the Wine Dimension and where it is, or if it even exists at all.   What is shared among all of these stories is that the Wine Dimension is likely not an entire Dimension, but an area of a Dimension. This area is submerged entirely in Wine, though some say it is an ocean of wine that can be accessed from the Popcorn Beach or the Cupcake Cliffs. It is a paradise of food and alcohol for drunkards who have reached Heaven, as legends say.   It is unclear which type of wine makes up the Wine Dimension. Most say any that is not Rosé is a good bet, but this is not a guaranteed fact, and some contest it with beliefs in a White Wine Dimension and a Red Wine Dimension. They could be separate, they could be similar, they may not even exist at all.   The most commonly held belief is the Wine Dimension is a part of Ninatta's Heavenly Realm. That she, of all people, rewards drunkards in her Heaven because they are the life of parties and festivals.   There is a passage in Ninatta's holy text, "Sheet Music" that praises wine specifically, which causes this belief. The passage reads as follows:
"Let the Wine of Life flow like blood through the veins of the Holy. Let the liquor give breath to the breathless, song to the voiceless, carry the feet of the lame, and identity to the masses. Let the gift of party bring life, and in turn, give back with the life of the party."
